‘Blue Bloods’ Fans Question Why Abigail Baker is ‘So Popular’

by Katie Maloney

Detective Abigail Baker is by no means a primary character in “Blue Bloods.” Nevertheless, she’s definitely a fan-favorite character.

Actor Abigail Hawk has portrayed Baker on “Blue Bloods” since the show’s start in 2010. However, her character has never become more than a supporting role on the shoe. But that hasn’t stopped fans from favoriting her character above the others. In fact, an entire Reddit thread is dedicated to discussions about why fans love Baker so much.

“Don’t get me wrong, Baker is my favorite character and probably the only reason I’m still watching the show. Still, that’s kind of weird, isn’t it?” wrote one fan. “Baker has had all of an hour of screentime throughout 11 seasons of the show, but she is ridiculously popular.”

The same fan added that many “Blue Bloods” fans hope that Baker gets more screentime on the show.

“A poll a few months back showed that out of all of the minor characters, people want more Baker,” they wrote. “…Baker has had only a handful of real scenes over the years, but somehow she has become a fan favorite.”

Another fan had the perfect words to describe Baker’s character on the show.

“She’s loyal but speaks her mind. She’s not afraid to stand up to anyone, even Reagan’s,” wrote the fan. “Also she is a real good cop. Very tough.”

Another fan suggested that Baker isn’t getting the spotlight she deserves on the show.

“Because she’s a talented detective reduced to a secretary and people want to see her really shine,” wrote the “Blue Bloods” fan.

Well, we definitely agree that we’d love to see more of Abigail Baker on “Blue Bloods.” We’ll just have to wait for next season to see if our wishes are granted.

Abigail Hawk Said That Her Character ‘Made Me Who I Am Today’

Eleven years is a good chunk of life. And that’s how long Abigail Hawk has been with “Blue Bloods” So, it makes sense that she feels her character has influenced her own personality. During an interview in 2019, Hawk said that her work on “Blue Bloods” “made me who I am today.”

“I feel like [Detective] Baker and I have matured together,” said Hawk.“I feel like we have both become confident women together, and it’s really exciting.”

Not only is Baker a detective on the show but she’s also the primary aide to the NYPD commissioner. And she handles it all with wit and strength.

“It’s been incredible for me to work alongside Tom [Selleck], and Greg Jbara, and Chloe Hessey,” said Hawk. “And, though I don’t get to see the other guys as much, whenever I do it’s always fun. It’s amazing that [the show] has lasted for almost a decade of my life. That’s a long time, especially for a network show.”
