‘Blue Bloods’ Has a Former NYPD Officer Edit Scripts and Make Adjustments to Show

It’s one of the most realistic police procedural drama television series, but that may be because Blue Bloods actually has somebody on staff that can give the writers and cast members a more inside look at what real police officers do on a daily basis.

According to CBS affiliate Channel 58, retired NYPD officer James Nuciforo is a tech advisor who helps with all police-related topics on the series. “Let’s say a 56-page script, I’ll give them anywhere between 5-0 pages of notes on the script, just plugging in dialogue with more jargon.”

According to IMDb, Nuciforo also worked on various TV shows, including Elementary, Unforgettable, Law & Order, and The Unusuals. He has also acted on Blue Bloods and Law & Order.

Nucifoco also told the media outlet that is he constantly in contact with Blue Bloods writes to discuss topics and situations. He also reads the script at least three times.

“They’ll call and they’ll tell me what they’re thinking about and they’ll say, ‘Have you ever had any experience like this or know of anything like this,’ and more often than not I do.”

Although he takes the job on the Blue Bloods set seriously, Nucifoco also knows that his work is for a TV series and not a documentary. He simply gives writers reality checks. The retired law enforcement officer added that they can’t use everything that he gives them.
