‘Blue Bloods’: Here’s the Real Reason Why ‘Linda Reagan’ Actor Amy Carlson Exited the Show After Season 7

Danny Reagan has been dealing with the death of his wife Linda on “Blue Bloods.” Why did actress Amy Carlson leave after seven seasons?

Simply put, Carlson decided not to renew her contract with the hit CBS crime drama, according to an article on Looper.com. Show producers decided to kill off Linda Reagan in a helicopter crash, thereby making it impossible for her and Carlson to return.

Carlson herself wasn’t too pleased with the way things turned out on “Blue Bloods.” She talked about it in a 2017 interview with Deadline.

Former ‘Blue Bloods’ Actor Not Happy With Way She Was Removed From Cast

Carlson said that she feels “badly that she dies the way she dies. [And] I did not know they would do that, I was surprised. I wouldn’t have done that.”

At the time, Carlson said she thought “it’s been hard on the fans.” She adds that she “never wanted it to end that way, so I feel sad for the fans because everyone wants closure, and I hear that a lot from the fans.”

After “Blue Bloods” killed off Linda Reagan, Carlson managed to reach out to fans of the show on social media.

“My heart is full of gratitude to each of you for your generous support of me and my character for the last seven years of Blue Bloods — Linda Reagan,” she wrote on Instagram. “I have been touched by your compassion and enthusiasm. I loved playing Linda … I’m proud of my contribution to building this series. I’m so grateful to CBS and the ‘Blue Bloods’ cast and crew. Mostly, I am grateful to the fans who have supported me and the show.”

When Carlson Was Part Of Cast, She Offered Some Pointers for Newcomers

Danny, played by Donnie Wahlberg, still struggles with Linda’s death. It is something that haunts him at times during “Blue Bloods” episodes. The helicopter accident does not receive many mentions on the show.

One thing Carlson did when she was part of the cast was to give an inside look at what it’s like to join it.

Carlson said during an interview with 92 Y Live that she really didn’t know who they meant by “Donnie” at first. Well, they added his last name and all of a sudden, Carlson puts two and two together.

She said, “I was like, ‘That guy is really cute. I think I could play his wife. [And] I think that would be a good job.’”

“‘And I used to have his bedsheets from New Kids on the Block,” Wahlberg added. Carlson replied with a quick “No comment.” For those who don’t know, Wahlberg is one of the original members of the popular boy band.

“Blue Bloods” will return this fall for its 12th season. Wahlberg will be back in the streets and you will probably find him at the Reagan dinner table, too. Tom Selleck returns as NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan, who not only oversees the NYPD but that dinnertime chit-chat session.
