Leaving a job after a decade-plus can be intimidating, and Bridget Moynahan’s gig as Erin Reagan on Blue Bloods is no exception. A fixture on the beloved CBS police drama since the show began in 2009, Moynahan has no intention of stepping away just yet. But every show has its lifespan, and whether because of that or a desire to take on a new challenge, Bridget Moynahan has given some thought to her future beyond the Reagan family.
To be fair, she’s probably been thinking about her next step since signing onto Blue Bloods in the first place. Diehard fans may remember that she nearly passed on the role before Donnie Wahlberg and his charm stepped in. Beyond that, however, is the unfortunate reality of the television industry. Even when she fully committed to the series, there was no guarantee that it’d make it past the pilot stage.
So bonafide movie star Bridget Moynahan has given her future plenty of thought over the years. Fortunately, Yahoo! Life caught up with the Blue Bloods star and asked her about the next step of her career.
“Every time I see a show like Mare of Easttown or Handmaid’s Tale, I think, God there’s such incredible work out there, such incredible opportunities and such great writing for women. So because of that, I feel that next step will open its doors when this wraps, whenever that may be,” Moynahan told the outlet.
‘Blue Bloods’ Brought Stability to Bridget Moynahan and Her Family
Remember the whole thing about Moynahan nearly passing on the Blue Bloods role? Well, a lot of it had to do with her concern over the show’s shooting location. At the time, the production team hadn’t locked in New York City. Of course, it was always going to be set there. But there was no guarantee that they’d film in the city.
That’s where Donnie Wahlberg stepped in. The Danny Reagan actor assured Moynahan that not only would Tom Selleck anchor the Blue Bloods cast, but he’d also make sure the show was filmed in New York City. Why was this important? Because Bridget Moynahan had a young son to care for at the time.
“I’ve fortunately been able to raise my son in New York City because of this show. That’s a win. When I was modeling, I missed out on weddings and funerals and birthdays because I was always off somewhere for a job,” Moynahan continued in the interview. “I was really thrilled when Blue Bloods came along, for me to get this job in New York and to be able to raise Jack here and have him close to his father.”
We’re certainly glad everything worked out. It’s hard to imagine anyone else in the Erin Reagan role. And it’s sad to think about the series ending. But we’re sure Bridget Moynahan’s next part will be worth the wait.
