‘Blue Bloods’ Star Bridget Moynahan Once Turned Down Major Film Role That Went to Halle Berry

“Blue Bloods” star Bridget Moynahan has had her fair share of Hollywood success. The actress has had roles in prominent films like “Coyote Ugly,” “Serendipity,” “I, Robot,” “Noise,” and “John Wick.”

Amongst it all, she currently has a leading role as an epic assistant director attorney on the hit CBS show “Blue Bloods” since September 2010.

However, there is one role Bridget Moynahan turned down that leaves fans thinking, “What if?”

According to her IMDb page, Moynahan turned down the lead role for the movie “Swordfish” from 2001. Apparently, she turned down the role after learning she would have to do nude scenes. Iconic film actress Halle Berry would instead land the part.

“Swordfish” stars John Travolta, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, and Don Cheadle. The movie is about a counter-terrorist group called Black Cell led by Gabriel Shear, played by Travolta. The group is looking to get money to fund their fight against international terrorism, but can’t access it alone. They bring in a convicted hacker, Stanley Jobson, played by Jackman, to get the job done.

According to the IMDb page for the movie, Halle Berry agreed to the topless scene because she wanted to overcome her fear of doing nude scenes in film. She said of the scene, “The nudity thing scared me to death.” Meanwhile, Travolta and Jackman were so into show tunes (i.e. “Grease” or “The Greatest Showman”) that they would sing songs from “Oklahoma!” and other musicals together.

Bridget Moynahan Talks ‘Blue Bloods’ Role

Moynahan was used to starring in a variety of different types of films before landing her “Blue Bloods” gig.

Now it is a consistent role that she’s helped carry since 2010. How did she balance the transition between playing a variety of characters to then being cast as the same character for over a decade?

In an interview with “This Morning” co-host Gayle King, she shares that the writers have helped make the show seem new and exciting throughout its ongoing run.

“I have noticed the writing has gotten better year after year. So, we’re very thankful and feel blessed about that. Because, you know, after seven years it could get a little stale. But luckily we have a bunch of writers and people who really care about the show who keep coming up with really smart ideas and storylines,” Moynahan said.

Even beyond that, Moynahan feels that her career is just in a different place than it once was. As Erin Reagan, she just feels more stable and secure.

“I just think I’m calmer, more confident. I feel more grounded. And a lot of the things that got me worked up or worried as a younger person just kind of rolls off (now),” she told “CBS This Morning” in 2017.
