‘Blue Bloods’ Star Detailed What Filming Was Like in 2020: ‘Very Intense and Challenging’

by Quentin Blount

As you can imagine, filming during the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic was a challenging time. Just ask the cast of Blue Bloods.

Loyal fans know that Will Estes played the youngest of the Reagan children, Jameson or “Jamie,” on Blue Bloods. He, along with his father, Frank Reagan (played by Tom Selleck), and siblings, Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) and Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan) make up New York City’s finest multi-generational police family.

Estes is the star actor on the show who went into detail about filming in 2020. That took place in a recent interview with Glitter Magazine.

“How has filming changed with all of the necessary COVID-19 safety precautions?” an interviewer asks the Blue Bloods star.

“It was a lot when we started. Very intense and challenging,” Estes replied. “Now I think we are actually hitting our stride in terms of the precautionary requirements.”

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to fans that the COVID-19 pandemic took a toll on film and television actors just like it did us everyday citizens. But for actors and actresses, the pandemic hit them hard in just about every aspect — many shows were forced to pause, budgets to rise, episode counts to be cut down, and even some shows were completely canceled.

The man behind Blue Bloods Jamie Reagan is at the very least just happy to be back working again.

“It’s a lot, but we feel privileged to be working,” he said.

‘Blue Bloods’ Star Talks Social Isolation During COVID-19 Pandemic

As the coronavirus pandemic peaked, everyone in the world was forced to adjust to a new kind of normal. One that included sometimes extreme isolation and social distancing. Actors and actresses like Blue Bloods star Will Estes were no exception.

Thankfully, the worst looks like it is behind us. But many people — even celebrities — may still deal with some of the mental effects from having to deal with feelings of isolation and loneliness. Estes says that at least for him, he considers boredom to be his “kryptonite.”

“What was a day in social isolation like for you?” the Glitter Magazine interviewer asked him.

“Boredom is my kryptonite,” Estes said. “Freedom of movement is sweet salvation.”

Lucky for us fans, however, we had one of our favorite family shows to lean on while cooped up at home in Blue Bloods. There are currently 11 seasons available to the public to stream. That makes for a perfect couple of weeks of binge-watching. Oh, and to make matters even better, Blue Bloods was recently renewed for a 12th season by the network back in April.
