“Blue Bloods” took a page out of the “Law & Order: SVU” playbook when they hired Marisa Ramirez in 2013. Her Maria Baez character joined the show as a partner to Detective Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg). Now, after watching them work together for years, fans have found themselves taking sides, as many have in the saga between Benson and Stabler. So, Danny and Baez—will they or won’t they?

Well, Danny Reagan actor Donnie Wahlberg says they won’t. We know that comes as disappointing news to the romantically inclined “Blue Bloods” folks out there. At the end of the day, however, it may be for the best.

Of course, it’s worth noting that neither Donnie Wahlberg nor Marisa Ramirez is a writer on the show. We’d be shocked if they had no say whatsoever, but it’s not as if they’re deciding the fate of their characters. Plenty of “Blue Bloods” fans have decided in their heads that Danny and Baez are destined to be together eventually. The consequences of that eventuality are more significant than many of them may think, though.

Look no further than the relationship between Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) and Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray). The former partners got together, Eddie joined the Reagan family, and the “Blue Bloods” stars don’t get many scenes together anymore.

Why? Because people love to watch the chase. Once the “will they or won’t they?” question is answered, the dynamic loses a lot of juice.

“Will Estes plays my younger brother on the show and Vanessa Ray plays his now-wife. And they started as partners, and the minute they got together and got married, they don’t have scenes anymore. So, if they start a relationship, we won’t have scenes together and then I’ll miss my friend,” Wahlberg told “The Talk” recently.

‘Blue Bloods’ Star Marisa Ramirez Says Show Wouldn’t Be Worth It Without Danny and Baez Scenes

Marisa Ramirez dealt yet another blow to the romantic hopes of “Blue Bloods” fans. She agrees with Donnie Wahlberg that their characters getting together would be bad news for their shared screen time.

It’s not as if it would be a bad thing for their characters. One could argue that a relationship could be the best thing for them. It’s that the co-stars appreciate working with each other so much. They don’t want to risk jeopardizing their ability to share the same frame.

“I don’t want to be here if I don’t have scenes with him,” Ramirez added in their interview with “The Talk.”

The good news for the “Blue Bloods” producers is they too agree with the Wahlberg/Ramirez consensus. Showrunner Kevin Wade admitted that there’s fantastic chemistry between the two actors. He told TV Insider, however, that there “aren’t stories in happy couples.”
