‘Blue Bloods’ Star Donnie Wahlberg Is Thankful for Those Who Served on Veterans Day

“Blue Bloods” star Donnie Wahlberg knows from his personal life the impact that veterans can have on the lives of others. And on Veterans Day, he posted a thank-you message to all veterans on social media.

“Thank you to all those who courageously served and to those who continue to serve,” he tweeted on Thursday. Then he tagged his father-in-law, Dan McCarthy, a Vietnam War veteran.

Donnie Wahlberg Plays a Veteran on ‘Blue Bloods’

On “Blue Bloods,” Wahlberg’s character, Danny Reagan, is a decorated Marine who did two tours in Iraq. According to CBS, Danny faced some pretty intense combat in Fallujah, from where he was the only member of his platoon to return alive.

Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) and Henry Reagan (Len Cariou) are also veterans, with the former serving in the Vietnam War and the latter serving in the Korean War. The only one to escape military service is Danny’s younger brother Jamie Reagan (Will Estes), who nonetheless joined the family business and became a cop.

Wahlberg’s “Blue Bloods” dad, Selleck, is a veteran in real life. Selleck served in the California National Guard during the Vietnam War. He went on to become a spokesperson for the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Fund.

“I am a veteran. I’m proud of it,” Selleck once told Military.com. “I was a sergeant in the U.S. Army infantry, National Guard, Vietnam era. We’re all brothers and sisters in that sense.”

On CBS Series, Wahlberg’s Character Faces ‘Real Threat’

Meanwhile, in an upcoming episode of the hit CBS series, Wahlberg’s character will face a “real threat,” his “Blue Bloods” co-star Estes teased in a recent interview with TV Insider.

The context: In the next episode, a gangbanger takes out a hit on Danny. So Frank, the NYPD commissioner, sends Jamie to act as Danny’s bodyguard.

“As you can imagine, it goes over like a lead balloon with Danny that Jamie’s going to be his ‘handler,’” Estes said. “Danny doesn’t take orders so well, and Jamie is just trying to make the best of it.”

So Jamie parks his sleeping bag alongside Danny’s bed and keeps an eye on him. Danny’s annoyance aside, however, Estes said, “there is real danger.”

It’s sure to be a suspenseful episode. Catch “Blue Bloods” Fridays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
