Blue Bloods star Donnie Wahlberg recently talked with Steven Colbert about his family, his career, and why he thinks acting was the right choice for him.

Wahlberg plays the tough-minded Danny Reagan on the hit CBS series Blue Bloods. Danny serves as an investigator for New York City’s 54th Precinct’s Detective Squad. Danny also specializes in the Major Crimes Unit.

While his character is known for his dedication to the job and his unconventional ways of catching the criminals, Wahlberg admits he would be much more forgiving.

‘Blue Bloods’ Star Would Be More Forgiving Than His Character

During the conversation, Colbert asked Wahlberg if he would make a good “real-life” police officer.

“I’m too lenient,” the star joked. “Sure, if you’re drunk-driving, I’ll put you in jail. But if you just took a right turn or you’re parked wrong I’d be like ‘eh, just get outta here!'”

Wahlberg added that he would even be forgiving of speeders.

“If you’re speeding, just slow down,” he laughed. “I wouldn’t give a ticket.”

While his character Danny’s dedication to the job drives him to do whatever it takes to make sure he catches the bad guys, Wahlberg admits he doesn’t have that same drive.

“You shouldn’t be a cop,” teased Colbert.

“Yeah, I shouldn’t be a cop,” the star agreed with a laugh.

Wahlberg’s Fame Won’t Stop The Law

Wahlberg first found fame as a member of the popular boy-band group New Kids on the Block. Since then, Wahlberg has starred in a variety of movies and television shows. Wahlberg is also a co-owner of the family-owned Wahlburgers franchise. Additionally, Wahlberg runs the business with his brothers, chef Paul Wahlberg and fellow actor, Mark Wahlberg.

During the conversation, the Blue Bloods star recounted a moment when he did try to use his fame on the CBS hit series Blue Bloods to get out of a ticket. Wahlberg said he thought the tactic could work after his driver made an illegal turn on red.

“The cop’s standing there and giving him a hard time,” the star recounted. “I said, ‘look, just tell him you have Donnie Wahlberg from Blue Bloods in the back, maybe he’ll let you go.’”

However, Wahlberg’s police-drama “star-power” wasn’t enough to get them out of the ticket.

“He said, ‘I don’t give a damn who ya got in the freakin’ car, you can’t make a right turn on red.  Here’s the ticket,”  Wahlberg laughed.

Being ticketed wasn’t a case of not being recognized, either, Wahlberg added. Donnie said that after issuing the ticket, the officer ended the encounter by saying: “Hey Donnie, I love Blue Bloods, goodnight!”
