Hard to believe, but “Blue Bloods” star Tom Selleck was sent packing from ABC’s 1970s hit series “Charlie’s Angels.” Why would this happen?

Selleck appeared on “The Drew Barrymore Show” and was asked about his one-episode appearance. Additionally, Barrymore mentions that she and Selleck have “Charlie’s Angels” in common because she starred in the 2000 film based on the TV show.

“They were trying to experiment with boyfriends for the Angels and I was gonna be Jackie Smith’s boyfriend,” Selleck said. He’s referring to Jaclyn Smith, who played Kelly Garrett on the original TV series. “And my boss on ‘Blue Bloods’…anyway, my boss Leonard Goldberg had a lot to do with ‘Charlie’s Angels’ and I remind him that my part didn’t end up recurring. They fired me after the first episode.”

Selleck Said ‘Blue Bloods’ Boss Actually Fired Him From ‘Charlie’s Angels’

Selleck said that Goldberg, his boss from “Blue Bloods,” actually fired him from the Aaron Spelling-produced hit show. Imagine that. The future Thomas Magnum for CBS’s “Magnum P.I.” didn’t make the cut after one episode. But he didn’t quit. Selleck, for instance, spent time doing bit parts and television commercials before catching his break.

Nowadays, Selleck is having a great run with “Blue Bloods.” The CBS show, in which Selleck plays New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, is returning for a 12th season.

Take a look at Selleck and Barrymore talking about his brief time on “Charlie’s Angels” in this interview from “The Drew Barrymore Show.”

Selleck Finds Peace, Contentment Away From Hollywood Scene

The “rat race” of living in Hollywood and working there began taking its toll on Selleck. After that, “Blue Bloods” star decided to move out of the Los Angeles area and live on a ranch in Ventura, Calif.

Selleck talked about his reasons for getting out of the show business-driven area in an interview with People.

“I’m a fairly private person,” Selleck said. “And I’ve always treasured the balance between work and time with my family. It’s always about them.”

Selleck works on balancing his life as a husband, father, and actor. Similarly, he loves family time a lot. Selleck is married to his second wife, Jillie Mack. He has one child from a previous marriage and one with Mack.

He purchased the ranch right after leaving “Magnum P.I.” and finds it a sweet getaway from shooting “Blue Bloods” in New York City. In conclusion, Selleck has found balance in his life, which brings him a lot of happiness.
