‘Blue Bloods’ Star Will Estes Didn’t Think the Show Would Have Such Longevity

by Joe Rutland

“Blue Bloods” is still part of the CBS lineup of core dramas after 11 seasons. Star Will Estes is surprised that it’s lasted that long.

Estes talked about that when he appeared in a 2020 interview with PopCulture.

“No, no I don’t know,” Estes said. “I don’t think you ever do but, you know, it’s been a great run and it’s been a lot of fun.”

On “Blue Bloods,” Estes plays Detective Jamie Reagan, son of NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan [Tom Selleck]. Estes joined the cast in the first season. He, Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg [Detective Danny Reagan], Bridget Moynahan [Assistant District Attorney Erin Reagan], and Len Cariou [Retired NYPD Commissioner Henry Reagan] are the only actors who have starred from that first year on CBS.

Expect to see Estes, Selleck, and others come back as “Blue Bloods” starts its 12th season this fall.

‘Blue Bloods’ Star Wasn’t Fan Of Having Jamie, Eddie Get Together

A storyline that picked up steam last season was Estes’ character getting married to Eddie [Vanessa Ray]. If you don’t know, Eddie was Jamie’s former partner on the streets in “Blue Bloods.”

Feelings for one another developed as they worked together. But Estes clearly stated that he didn’t want any of this to happen at all.

In a 2021 interview with Glitter, Estes said he “hated the idea.”

“I thought it would be the end of the storyline, and we would be missing the lesson from the show,” Estes said. Now, though, he’s changed his tune.

“I don’t think that now,” he said. “And working with Vanessa is one of my favorite things about ‘Blue Bloods.

Estes Had Fan Interaction On The Streets Of New York That Was Interesting

“Blue Bloods” definitely has its collection of fans. They are all over the place, even on the streets of New York. Estes talked about one moment with fans that involved himself and Ray.

“My favorite is probably when a big fellow came up and stood about 6 feet from us as we were about to shoot,” Estes said in the Glitter interview. “He was talking loudly on his cell phone in what I would call a strong New York-meets-Gonzo-from-Sesame-Street accent.”

Well, this fan insulted Ray first. Estes said the guy said, “‘Yeah, I’m standing right here in front of them … Yeah. Yeah, it’s Jamie Reagan and his partner … I can’t remember her name.'”

Estes said that, obviously, was “a crummy thing to say so loud about an actor right in front of them, so Vanessa and I got a big kick out of that.”

But this man had a word for Estes as well. “He had sidestepped around and come right up next to us,” Estes said. “As I turned he said to me loud enough for everyone, ‘You’re a lot smaller in person.'” Estes is 5 feet, 10 inches tall.

Make of that interaction what you will but “Blue Bloods” stands out on CBS.
