‘Blue Bloods’ Star Will Estes Opens Up About How He Would Like Show to End

by Michael Freeman

Blue Bloods has become a staple crime drama, with more than 12 seasons under its belt. However, all good things must come to an end, and in a recent interview, Will Estes gives his thoughts on what he’d like to happen.

Fielding questions from Looper, Estes talked about some of his past roles, favorite moments on the show, and more. Near the end when he’s asked what he’d like to see happen on the series, the ending was brought up. In short, he wants the characters to “walk off into the sunset, so to speak.” In fact, he doesn’t have a specific scenario in mind and seems to want notice its ending more than anything else.

“Yeah, I’ve thought about it,” Estes began. “I’ve thought about it personally, because I’ve been on the show for so long, but I haven’t thought about it much creatively. I don’t know what that will look like creatively. I hope that we have some notice, you know? Donnie said they can’t end the show without saying this is the final season or some version of that. And I think he’s right. I hope we get that warning. We might not.”

After that, Will Estes comments on the character endings themselves, though he doesn’t really have anything planned out. “But, yeah, I hope we know that it’s coming and wrap it up so in some ways it can be like a movie, you want a fitting end to a story. And so I do hope we get a chance to know it’s coming and to wrap things up and watch these characters walk off into the sunset, so to speak, when the show goes down.”

Then again, he muses they may go the Law & Order route and just keep going. Here’s hoping.

Will Estes Talks About His Favorite Guest Star

Blue Bloods, like many crime dramas, has had no shortage of guest star appearances. Not all of them are created equal though, and Will Estes mentioned who his personal favorite was so far.

In the same Looper interview, Estes talked about some of his favorite guests on the show. Though he struggled to fully commit to one answer, a few did stand out to him. “There’s been so many,” he stated. “We had Chazz Palminteri. I thought Whoopi Goldberg was fantastic playing opposite Tom. William Sadler playing Vanessa’s father. I was honored and excited to be working with him.”

Estes added shortly afterward that “It’s hard to just pick one.” Though he listed two people, from that statement, he stated being especially enthusiastic about working with William Sadler. He does have quite the acting legacy behind him, so it’s easy to see why Estes enjoyed the experience so much.
