We may not be getting a musical episode of “Blue Bloods” in the near future, or probably ever, but we are going to see some music icons in season 12 very soon.

There have been plenty of exciting guest stars over the history of the popular CBS procedural drama. Donnie Wahlberg, who plays Danny Reagan on the show, recently revealed who is popping in to pay the Reagan family a visit.

Lyle Lovett on ‘Blue Bloods’

For reference, Donnie Wahlberg is a musical star himself. He was one of the members of the New Kids on the Block. He is once again reuniting with Lyle Lovett on “Blue Bloods.” He shared an image of the two of them on the set of the show from a few weeks ago. It’s captioned, “Glad to be reunited with this guy @lyle_lovett on @bluebloods_cbs, and when I actually do ‘have a boat’ again, it’s gonna ‘go out on the ocean’ with all of us and he’s invited.”

Lovett is a popular singer and songwriter. He has 13 albums and has 25 singles released at this time. Some of his popular songs include “Cowboy Man,” “You’ve Got a Friend In Me,” “All My Love Is Gone,” and “Walking Tall.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Lyle Lovett on the show, either. He was first introduced as Texas Ranger Waylon Gates in 2020. He appeared during the season 10 episode titled “Fog of War.” His character traveled to New York in order to pursue a killer known as the Lone Star Killer.

It was an entertaining episode that actually mentioned New Kids on the Block a couple of times, much to the excitement of fans.

The duo clashed at first but was able to track down the killer together. Some fans were confused at the time as to why Lovett was appearing on the show. One fan wrote on Twitter, “Please share with us why Lyle Lovett was on Blue Bloods? Was there not any other guest star willing to play that role? I could have played that role. Please explain!”

‘Blue Bloods’ and Jimmy Buffett

Donnie Wahlberg also revealed that famous Margaritaville icon Jimmy Buffett is set to appear on “Blue Bloods” as well.

He shared a picture of himself next to Buffett at Rockaway Beach, seeing as the singer is never too far from the beach as it is. “Looks Rockaway Beach, but it feels like Margaritaville! Having a great time shooting a fun new episode of @bluebloods_cbs with the legend @jimmybuffett! What a great guy! So fun! #YachtRockaway,” Donnie Wahlberg wrote on Instagram.

It’s a bit of an unexpected combination to appear in the serious drama series. Hopefully “Blue Bloods” doesn’t pull a fast one and kill off the “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” singer because Parrot Heads may revolt.
