One might think “Blue Bloods” star Donnie Wahlberg wakes up already energized and ready for his day. A city raises that energy by a bit.

Wahlberg, who plays Detective Danny Reagan in the long-running CBS drama, happens to love filming his show’s episodes on-site in New York City. Don’t believe it? Let the man speak for himself.

“There’s nothing like shooting here,” Wahlberg said in a 2019 interview with CBS.com. “I get energized on the streets. And it’s such a big city, there’s so much going on and, of course, our characters’ jobs as police officers is to control what’s going on.

“In my music career [as a founding member of New Kids on the Block], how do I get control of 15,000 screaming people in an arena,” Wahlberg said. “And get them to follow along where I want to take them during a song or a moment or an entire concert? I think that’s what I do in ‘Blue Bloods,’ but in a different way.”

‘Blue Bloods’ Star Will Go Ask for Favors From Character’s Family Member

Fans of the show know Wahlberg’s character can get worked up over some of his cases.

Danny has been known to go to Assistant District Attorney Erin Reagan, played by Bridget Moynahan, and ask for a “family favor.” It might be a warrant for an arrest or something else related to work. As much as Erin wants to say no, there are times where she will relent and help her family member out.

One of the great things about “Blue Bloods” is that there is a family connection within the show. Obviously, families have their issues. The Reagans are no different, either.

When things appear to out of sorts, NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan, played by Tom Selleck, will offer words of wisdom either in his office or at the dinner table.

Dinner Scenes Become Places Where Reagans Can Discuss Matters of the Day

Ah, those dinner scenes. They are times where everyone who makes it there can connect with other family members. If you watch “Blue Bloods” on a regular basis, then you’ll know this is where issues get settled or not settled. Frank will offer wise counsel to some of the heated family discussions. Sometimes, Henry Reagan, played by Len Cariou, will take on that role as well.

In fact, you can find Frank going to Henry and having an adult beverage to discuss matters. “Blue Bloods” reflects dedication and devotion within the Reagan family as they serve the public. Most of them are in the police department or in the legal field.

The CBS hit show will come back for a 12th season this fall. Wahlberg, Moynahan, Selleck, and Cariou, along with Will Estes, have been with the show since the first episode. Estes plays Sgt. Jamie Reagan on “Blue Bloods.” Sami Gayle, a fan favorite who played Nicky Reagan in a recurring or full-time role for 10 seasons, returned for a guest appearance last season.
