‘Blue Bloods’: Why Bridget Moynahan Says She ‘Didn’t Even Talk About’ Show Until It Got Series Order

During a 2013 interview “Blue Bloods” star Bridget Moynahan talked about how she does not allow herself to be overconfident when it comes to landing a role or having a television series succeed.

At the time she sat down with Steve Adubato on “One on One” the popular CBS family cop drama was in its fourth season. The series follows the Reagan family of New York City. They are a group of people who have dedicated themselves to law enforcement. Moynahan plays Assistant District Attorney Erin Reagan in “Blue Bloods.”

During the interview, Adubato wanted to know how the actress handles rejection.

“Because the business is so unpredictable. Because the business involves so much rejection, how good are you, or how tough are you when it comes to not getting a job and dealing with it?” he asked.

Moynahan said she does not go into auditions overly confident.

“Um, I think I’m okay with it,” the “Blue Bloods” star explained. “I kind of go in with everything of, ‘Well, I’m going to go do my best and most likely I’m not going to get it. There’s a lot of people going out for the same role.”

Adubato was surprised at Moynahan’s answer and asked her to confirm that she goes into auditions thinking she most likely will not land the part.

“That I’m not going to get it,” Moynahan confirmed.

“You don’t walk in, ‘Hey, this is mine?'” Adubato then asked.

‘Blue Bloods’ Star Bridget Moynahan Had ‘Doubt’ That the Show Would Be Picked Up for a Second Season

Bridget Moynahan then further explained what she meant. She also said that she stayed quiet about “Blue Bloods” for a while.

“I go in with that attitude, but I don’t marry myself and start spending the money that I think I might be earning,” the actress said. “Or, like calling the press and say, ‘Hey, I got this role.’ I really, even with (“Blue Bloods”), I did not talk about it until it went to series, because you never know.”

Even after the show was picked up by CBS, Bridget Moynahan remained cautiously optimistic.

“And even that first year, you don’t know if it’s going to get picked up again,” she also said. “There’s always that doubt of, ‘Okay, how long is this going to run for?’ This is the first time I’ve been on a series that’s going and going and going. … I was on ‘Sex and the City,’ but that wasn’t my show.”

Moynahan’s cautious optimism proved to be unnecessary. The 12th season of “Blue Bloods” began filming during July 2021.

Speaking of “Sex and the City,” Moynahan also shared some details about how she landed the role of Natasha in popular series.

“There were about 3,000 girls waiting for that same audition,” she recalled. “The audition line was, ‘Hi, nice to meet you.’ And that was it. That was the whole audition.”

Moynahan must have said those five words in the perfect way. Thanks to her roles in “Sex and the City” and “Coyote Ugly,” her acting career began to take off.
