‘Blue Bloods’ Star Will Estes Perfectly Described Differences Between Jamie in Season 1 and Season 11

Will Estes plays the youngest of the Reagan sons on the popular police procedural, “Blue Bloods.” During the show’s eleven-season run, there have been many changes within the law enforcement-centered Reagan family. One character that has changed a lot during this time is that of Estes’s Jamie Reagan.

When the show first premiered, Jamie Reagan was new to the beat-cop experience having focused on obtaining his Harvard University Law Degree. Because of this, the young Reagan was wet behind the ears in the beginning years. Oftentimes learning valuable lessons the hard way.

During a recent interview with Glitter, Will Estes discussed his “Blue Bloods” character and his growth over the last decade.

“I would use words like young, hopeful, idealistic, and naive to describe him in season 1,” Will Estes told the outlet.

“In season 11, I would use words like experienced, tested, capable, humbled, and persistent,” the “Blue Bloods” star continued. “I think he’s funnier now, too- if I dare say so.”

From Newbie to Sargaent, Jamie Reagan Finds His Footing on the NYPD

When the show first began, Jamie was a rookie cop on the New York City Police Department. His brother, Danny (Donny Wahlberg) seemed a little more cut-out for the life of an NYPD officer. With his street-smart personality, Danny found the demands of police work to be a little easier to handle than Jamie did at first.

Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan) is the Reagan boys’ only sister. She serves as New York City’s current assistant district attorney.

“The character has evolved too from rookie to veteran and now sergeant,” Estes said of his “Blue Bloods” character.

A “Blue Bloods” Love Story

During the interview, the actor also discussed his on-screen relationship with costar Vanessa Ray.

“I never wanted them to get together,” Estes said. “I hated the idea. I thought it would be the end of the storyline.”

Ray plays Jamie’s partner on the show. The duo found themselves in a romance just a few seasons ago. The partners tied the knot in “Blue Bloods” season 10. While Will Estes was unsure about the pairing at first, hoping to continue the “will they or won’t they” storyline, he noted that he no longer thinks the pairing was a mistake.

“I don’t think that now,” the actor told Glitter. “And working with Vanessa is one of my favorite things about ‘Blue Bloods.'”
