“Blue Bloods” fans are anxiously awaiting the premiere of season 12.
And there’s no better way to kill time before a premiere than to rewatch past episodes of the show. Clearly, “Blue Bloods” creators know this well because as of today, they’ve released a DVD box set of Season 11. But the box set doesn’t just include all the episodes from the past season. The set also features deleted scenes, bonus content for fans who want to know more about the show, and new featurettes. One of the featurettes titled “Shades of Blue” features behind-the-scenes stories from the “Blue Bloods” actors.
Donnie Wahlberg, who plays Danny Reagan on the show, reveals his thoughts about the show in the “Shades of Blue” segment. He, along with many other “Blue Bloods” stars reveals secrets about the family dinner scene during the “Guardian Angels” episode. During the scene, the family argues over one family member’s recent injury.
“Despite the fact that it’s a law enforcement family, it’s a law enforcement family with a lot of differing opinions,” said Walhberg. “On any given dinner scene, you could have eight people at the table, all with eight different opinions of a real-life situation that’s occurring.”
Why Are the Family Dinner Scenes on ‘Blue Bloods’ So Fun to Watch?
Donnie Wahlberg said it all in his quote above – the Reagans are juggling a lot of opinions during their family dinners. And watching those opinions unfold and interact with each other is fun. That was certainly the case during the season 11 “Guardian Angels” dinner scene. The family dinner centers around Eddie, Jamie Reagan’s wife. Earlier in the show, a suspect out on bail for assaulting another police officer brutally attacks Eddie. Obviously, many of the family members are outraged that the assailant was out of prison and hurt Eddie. However, Erin Reagan, the assistant district attorney in the family, maintains that it’s important to uphold bail laws. Of course, Erin worries about Eddie’s safety. That said, it’s also important to Erin to follow the laws and maintain the order that her job entails.
During the same “Shades of Blue” segment, Will Estes who plays Jamie Reagan on “Blue Bloods” discussed the dynamics of the family dinner.
“Maybe we can tell a perspective that hasn’t necessarily been told, as storytellers,” said Estes. “Maybe that brings us all closer together. I think that’s the kind of goals a television show can have, that I think that we may be able to do well.”
Fans can pick up their season 11 DVD box set of “Blue Bloods” starting today. We just hope all those bonus features can hold us over until the season 12 premiere on October 1st.
