Singing-songwriting icon Bob Dylan reportedly being sued by a woman who claims was sexually abused by him in 1965. When she was just 12-years-old.

According to Page Six, the woman’s lawsuit claims that Bob Dylan abused the then 12-year-old at his Chelsea Hotel Apartment in 1965. He also gave her both drugs and alcohol at the time. The victim’s name isn’t available, other than just the initials. The initials are J.C.

The suit further asserts that Bob Dylan, who is 80-years-old, groomed the girl for six weeks, in April and May 1965. It further claims that he sexually assaulted her as a way to lower the pre-teen’s “inhibitions with the object to sexually abusing her.”

The lawsuit also states that Bob Dylan, who was 24-years-old at the time, “exploited his status as a musician” in order to gain the then pre-teen’s trust. This was allegedly part of his initial plans to sexually molest and abuse her. Dylan also threatened her with physical violence, the lawsuit says.

The lawsuit adds all Bob Dylan’s actions left the now 65-year-old J.C. emotionally scarred and psychologically damaged. It says she has been struggling with anxiety and depression, as well as humiliation since the sexual abuse ended almost 60 years ago.

J.C. is now seeking a jury trial along with currently unspecific damages.

Bob Dylan’s Camp Responds to the Sexually Abuse Lawsuit

Page Six also reported that Bob Dylan’s spokesperson denied all allegations in the lawsuit. The statement reads, “The 56-year-old claim is untrue. [The lawsuit] will be vigorously defended.”

Daniel Isaac, the lawyer who is representing J.C., responded to Bob Dylan’s spokesperson by saying, “The complaint speaks for itself. [J.C.] provided a lot of detailed information regarding the time in question that leaves no doubt that she was with him in the [Chelsea Hotel] apartment during the time in question.”

The lawyer further states he was able to verify those details with the “best available research” he accrued. He did verify that J.C. currently has no plans to go public about the lawsuit. He did not reveal why his client has decided to seek legal action nearly 60 years after the incidents happened.

Page Six also reveals that J.C.’s lawsuit against Bob Dylan was officially filed on the eve of the New York Child Victims’ Act look-back window closure. This window reportedly allows childhood abuse victims to file lawsuits against their abusers and institutions that protected the abusers. No matter how old the claims were and whether the claims passed the statute of limitations.

At the time of the alleged sexual abuse, Bob Dylan was romantically linked to his first wife, Sarah Lownds. The couple actually became husband and wife in November 1965. Their first child, Jesse Dylan, was born in January 1966. The couple had three more children before divorcing in 1977.
