Maureen McCormick, who played Marcia on The Brady Bunch is revealing all the secrets behind her romance with co-star Barry Williams.
Both Maureen McCormick and Barry Williams, who played Greg, were teenagers when they started filming The Brady Bunch. So, it was only a matter of time before teenage hormones brought them together. And that’s exactly what happened while the cast was in Hawaii filming episodes for season four. After months of flirtation, the two kissed for the first time on the beach. During an interview with the cast of The Brady Bunch, Maureen dished on what it was like to kiss Barry.
“Okay, it was good. But it was not my first kiss. It was my first kiss with Barry,” Maureen clarified.
When asked to rate the kiss on a scale from 1 to 10. Maureen paused and then gave two thumbs up. To which Barry happily hugged her and said “give me some lovin’.”
The Chemistry Between Maureen and Barry On The Brady Bunch Was Electric
Although no one had a problem with the co-stars dating offscreen, the couple became problematic when they couldn’t shut their chemistry off on set. The two were so attracted to each other that the director of the show had to come up with special tricks to tone down the chemistry between the two while filming. Because, you know, no one wants chemistry between a brother and sister. In his book, Brady, Brady, Brady: The Complete Story of the Brady Bunch, the show’s producer, Lloyd Schwartz talked about a bedroom scene Maureen and Barry had to film together. The episode was about Greg and Marcia fighting over the new attic bedroom. But things quickly got steamy.
“The problem was that this episode was being shot at the height of the sexual tension between Barry and Maureen,” said Shwartz. “When Barry sat down on the bed and started to talk to his TV sister, it became romantic, even steamy. I couldn’t print a scene in which a brother and sister were obviously hot for each other.”
In her book, Maureen also recalled the chemistry she had on set with Barry.
“There was so much electricity between us that I felt the hair on my arms stand up every time we got close to each other,” said Maureen. “I thought about Barry even when I had other scenes with other guys.”
So, Schwartz came up with a plan. He told Barry to make a fist and put it between himself and McCormick. “‘Keep that much distance between the two of you,'” Maureen said Schwartz told them. “‘I don’t want to see you touching.'”
Luckily, his idea worked and the two Brady Bunch kids got through the scene.
