Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will perform as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live as the show hosts its final episodes of the 2020 season.

However, this isn’t the first time Bruce Springsteen has appeared on SNL. He performed for the first time in 1992 with host Tom Hanks. Not only was this Springsteen’s first time on the show, but it was also his North American TV debut. According to Far Out, Springsteen and his handlers had decided to avoid any publicity or promo spots when releasing Springsteen’s two albums, Human Touch and Lucky Town. But the plan backfired when sales for the albums underperformed. Springsteen had declined invitations to perform on Saturday Night Live for 17 years before agreeing to appear in 1992 to boost album sales and promote his tour.

Springsteen returned in 2002 with host Matt Damon, and again in 2015 with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as hosts. Here are a few of Springsteen’s top SNL performances to date.

Looking Forward To New Bruce Springsteen Performances

This month will mark Springsteen’s fourth appearance on Saturday Night Live. He will be joined by host Timothée Chalamet (Call Me by Your Name, The French Dispatch). The group announced themselves with a video on Twitter, joking that the entire E Street Band has joined the SNL cast.
