An Arizona Cardinals player took to social media earlier this week to share a racist, profanity-laced message sent to him by a San Francisco 49ers fan, sfgate.com reports.

Budda Baker, a star safety for the Cardinals, was instrumental in his team’s victory over the San Francisco on Sunday. Baker recorded 15 tackles in the game, but it was one particular tackle that apparently drew the ire of a disgruntled 49ers fan.

Baker collided with 49ers star Tight End George Kittle late in the first half on Sunday’s game. The Pro Bowl tight end limped to the sideline after the hit. Kittle is not believed to be seriously injured as a result of the tackle.

Baker revealed the vulgar private message he received after the game. The highly offensive message, which uses multiple racial slurs and profane language, can be viewed here.

In sharing it on his personal Twitter account, Baker condemns the message as over the line.

“I’m all good with opposing fans talking trash,” his caption reads. “But this right here man…all you can do is pray for ppl like this.”

The message was sent by a twitter user identified as “@niners8.” Along with heavily offensive language and racist slurs, the message also threatens Baker with a “bounty” and wishes injury upon him.

“Get on your knees you f**king slave,” the message reads. “Before you blow your own knees out.”

The incident occurs on the heels of the NFL’s season opener that saw several teams and players protest in an effort to bring attention to social injustice. Many players chose to kneel or stand with fist in the air during the playing of the National Anthem.

49ers Respond

The 49ers released a statement on Tuesday stating the individual who sent the message does not represent their fan base.

“Incidents like this demonstrate how much work remains to the done to address racism and hate in our society,” the statement reads. “We remain steadfast in our commitment to that work.”

The 49ers organization also said they are working toward identifying the individual and banning them from for life, according to TMZ Sports.
