Actress Candace Cameron Bure says she’s taking a break from social media in the wake of an internet backlash over a family photo she had shared.
Candace Cameron Bure Takes a Break
“Taking a break from the comments to reread my book ‘Kind is the New Classy,’” Bure posted to Instagram on Wednesday.
Three days ago, Cameron Bure posted a family photo of herself, her husband Val and their three children, Natasha, 22, Lev, 20, and Maksim, 18. In the photo, Natasha and Maksim are not smiling, but the rest of the family is.
No Stranger to Internet Backlash
Some Instagram commenters took the family to task for their expressions and body language.
“Natasha must be looking at the other camera,” one posted.
“You’d expect more out of celebrities who know more about the camera,” another griped. “Anyway, enjoy your celebrity status and grow a thicker hide!”
Both Cameron Bure and Natasha had hopped into the comments section to respond to the criticisms.
“Wow,” Cameron Bure responded. “I post a family photo and you all find everything you don’t like about it or can make fun of. Do better than that. Please.”
Cameron Bure went on to criticize the backlash in a Facebook post.
“I posted my family Christmas photo and sadly, there were so many unkind comments,” she said. “Do you think it’s funny to criticize someone’s children? To make jokes about them? To critique our poses? The direction in which we are looking? Our physical appearance and facial expressions?”
That was not the first time Cameron Bure has faced a backlash on social media. In an earlier post, she shared a photo of her husband getting a little touchy, and some of her fans disapproved. But Cameron Bure just laughed it off.
“I love the fact that so many people had an opinion on it,” she told Fox News. “It made me laugh because I wasn’t trying to make a statement. This is just how my husband and I are. You know, we adore each other and we still have fun and we’re spicy together.”
