Carrie Underwood will star in a Christmas Special on HBO Max, Deadline reported recently. The country music superstar will shoot the special for the streaming service this fall.
Underwood will perform songs from her most recent album “My Gift” on the special.
The album full of holiday music was released last month. It features duets with her young son Isaiah and, controversially, John Legend.
“The journey of writing and recording this album started last year when I finished my tour and we could have never anticipated the circumstances we would be in this year,” Underwood told the site. “Creating this album has been good for my heart, and I’m thrilled to get to share it with the world and to bring it to life with Playtone and HBO Max.”
Playtone, Tom Hanks production company, will produce the special. Underwood will be accompanied by a live choir and orchestra, according to the press release.
In a promotional video for her album, Underwood discussed her love of Christmas.
“Now more than ever, we all need to focus on what Christmas is about, rely more on our family, and even though it has been a tough year, sometimes I feel like the greatest realizations can come in the worst times, or in the most stressful times, and it makes you more thankful for the things you do have,” she says in the video.
Another country music star to release Christmas special
Dolly Parton‘s latest Christmas special will appear on Netflix on Nov. 22, Deadline reported.
“Dolly Parton’s Christmas on The Square” stars Parton, Christine Baranski, Jenifer Lewis, Treat Williams, and Jeanine Mason. The movie follows a rich woman named Regina (Baranski) who tries to sell her father’s land to a developer. However, she has a change of heart after meeting her guardian angel (Parton). That meeting leads Regina to rekindle connections with her hometown.
The special will feature 14 original songs by Parton.
Parton also released a Christmas album last week. “A Holly Dolly Christmas” is her first album of Christmas music in 30 years, Billboard reports.
