It’s kind of hard to believe that A Charlie Brown Christmas Soundtrack has never been in the Billboard Top 10. Well, this year is looking a little different for Charlie Brown and the gang.
Now after 55-years, A Charlie Brown Christmas Soundtrack by Vince Guaraldi’s Trio is finally reached the top 10 of the Billboard 200 for the first time.
It’s one of the record-tying six-holiday albums among the top 10, according to Billboard. Among the six-way tie is Michael Buble’s former No. 1 Christmas, Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas, Nat King Cole’s The Christmas Song, Carrie Underwood with My Gift, and Pentatonix’s The Best of Pentatonix Christmas.
‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ Album Released in 1965
When the holiday album was first released in December in conjunction with the iconic movie as a CBS Christmas special. However, the record did not reach any Billboard rankings until 1987. But in 1987 it debuted on the Top Holiday Albums chart. It then peaked at No. 2 in 2007.
Furthermore, A Charlie Brown Christmas Soundtrack hit the Billboard 200 chart on Dec. 5, 2009. This marked the beginning of the organization allowing older titles to chart. As a result, the holiday album has been a staple on the tally during the holiday season.
Holiday Movie Pulled From Network TV
“A Charlie Brown Christmas” movie had been a fixture on network television since 1965. The Christmas special aired on CBS until the year 2000.
Then once the contract rights expired with CBS, ABC picked up the legendary movie and aired in from 2001 through 2019. But this year, it was Apple TV+ subscription streaming service that nabbed the rights, along with other Peanuts classics.
Fans of the classic were furious and even started a petition. As a result, Apple TV+ teamed up with PBS to air “A Charlie Brown Christmas” for one night only on network television.
According to Apple Insider, the Christmas classic will be streaming through the holiday season on the subscription service.
