Chevy Chase Watches One of His Own Iconic Movies in Legendary New Pic

by Suzanne Halliburton

Chevy Chase is just like the rest of us. He watches his own classics when they come on television. And he laughs at this one, especially this one. We all do.

Remember Caddyshack? Ok, that’s a silly question. The film from 1980 is a damn classic, the GOAT (or gopher, your choice) of the sports movie world. Chevy Chase needed no words to describe the tweet he posted earlier this week.

So since it’s Friday and since Chevy Chase brought it up, we’re going to celebrate Caddyshack.

In this photo, Chevy Chase, as Ty Webb, is flirting with country club bad girl Lacey Underall, who is played by Cindy Morgan. They’re doing shots of tequila at Ty’s place. Check that, Lacey takes a shot of tequila, then Ty shows her the correct way to do it. He snorts the salt, sucks the lime, and throws the tequila over his shoulder.

As requested, Chevy Chase sings her a love song. They’re sitting at his organ, so why not.

Chase sings:

“I was born to love you, I was born to lick your face. I was born to rub you, but you were born to rub me first.”

A Lesson on How to Flirt by Ty Webb

We’ve got more flirty exchanges between Ty and Lacey:

Lacey: What do you do for excitement?
Ty: Oh, l – play a lot of golf.
Lacey: Golf? … Nixon plays golf. I bet you got a lot of interesting stories about your ball landing in the road.
Ty: So what do you do?
Lacey: I enjoy – skinny-skiing, going to bullfights on acid.

Or, how about this one:

Lacey: I tried calling, but don’t have a listing for “Mr. Wonderful.”
Ty: What spelling did you use?

And this one:

Ty: For me, there’s a subtle perfection in everything I do. I have my own standards, my own way. in everything I do. I’ve got my own standards, my own way.
Lacey My uncle says you’ve got a screw loose.
Ty: Oh yeah? Your uncle molests collies.

This Chevy Chase Movie Is Most Remembered for Scene He Isn’t In

But seriously, we know that another star was a scene-stealer in this Chevy Chase movie. He’s Bill Murray, the greenskeeper, the Cinderella Boy, aka Carl Spackler. Remember this third-person monologue as Murray chips at mums? It was all improvised. And it’s especially appropriate because last week was the Masters.

What an incredible Cinderella story. This unknown comes outta nowhere to lead the pack at Augusta. He’s at the final hole. He’s about 455 yards away, he’s going to hit about a two iron, I think. … Boy, he got all of that. The crowd is standing on its feet here at Augusta.

The normally reserved Augusta crowd is going wild for this young Cinderella who’s come out of nowhere. He’s got about 350 yards left; he’s going to hit about a five iron, it looks like, don’t you think? He’s got a beautiful backswing … That’s … Oh! He got all of that one! He’s gotta be pleased with that. The crowd is just on its feet here.

He’s a Cinderella boy, tears in his eyes, I guess, as he lines up this last shot. And he’s got about 195 yards left, and he’s got a, it looks like he’s got about an eight iron. This crowd has gone deadly silent. Cinderella story, out of nowhere, former greenskeeper, now about to become the Masters champion. It looks like a mirac . . . It’s in the hole! IT’S IN THE HOLE!!!:

Caddyshack Was Perfect Summer Movie with Bevy of Comedians

The movie starred Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, Ted Knight, and Michael O’Keefe. Bill Murray also had a part. Coincidentally, Murray replaced Chase on Saturday Night Live. The two didn’t like each other but have since made up. Murray’s big brother Brian Doyle Murray was a movie co-writer. Another Murray brother inspired the movie.

Caddyshack was released in July, 1980. And it was a perfect popcorn summer movie. Caddyshack also is timeless, so if you flip it on, it’s still hilarious 41 years later.

If you do watch it — and why wouldn’t you — remember the other scene-stealer. He’s a furry little critter. So move over Chevy Chase. It’s gopher time.

And, a story about Chevy Chase and Caddyshack can’t end without the classic theme song from Kenny Loggins and a montage of scenes from the movie. Enjoy.
