With the heart of Chicago Fire being replaced, can the series redeem itself? Devotees of the hit series were left in shock following the unexpected departure of Matt Casey played by Jesse Spencer earlier in the season. Enter Casey’s replacement as captain, Lieutenant Jason Pelham played by Brett Dalton.
The American actor is most known for his roles as Grant Ward and Hive in ABC’s series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in addition to Michael Munroe in the 2015 video game, Until Dawn.
Chicago Fire lists Dalton as a recurring role in the credits. In other words, fans are unsure whether he’s here to stay. Pelham wasted no time establishing his character on the show. In addition to being referred to as having “floated” from station to station, Dalton’s also already struck a nerve with Gallo (Alberto Rosende). These observations conclude the new character may not be frequenting the series in the same way as his predecessor, Matt Casey.
It can be difficult for any new character to enter into an already established cast. Especially if they’ve been successfully working together for over a decade. The transition is rough for both the actor as well as the series dedicated followers.
What Do ‘Chicago Fire’ Fans Think of Dalton?
Avid viewers of the action-packed series took to social media to express their opinions on the role reprisal.
It took others a little more time to warm up to the character. @kimmiek2006 tweeted, “I didn’t like Pelham at first because of his attitude towards Gallo but now, Pelham is kinda growing on me.” In the same vein, @blsd_mom wrote, “Alright, Pelham kinda irked me with snapping at Gallo, but then he was trying to get thru [sic] and better, so alright, he ain’t so bad. But what is up with always being a floater??”
“Pelham is very pretty and seems capable, but Stella should be the new lieutenant,” @lah9891 observed.
The feedback wasn’t all positive, however. Disgruntled fans such as @5021stellaride tweeted, “Okay Pelham is REALLY getting on my nerves now.”
In sum, @AmadahyZ rounds out the opinions stating, “Pelham is looking like the perfect replacement for Casey. The tension will make things interesting and we’ll see what he’s made of.”
