“Chicago Fire” is insanely well-versed in throwing new plots, stories, and rescues into their long running series. Now, we’ve just marked the 200th episode of the hit NBC show. Never one to waste time, show runner Derek Haas has hit us with yet another exciting announcement. This holiday season, “Chicago Fire” fans can look forward to a special holiday episode and we are more than excited.
Haas revealed to TVLine the “bonus spoiler,” sharing, “For the first time in years, as long as I can remember, we’re doing a holiday episode.” He continued, promising “Chicago Fire” fans it will definitely get us in the spirit of the season. The show runner boasted, “Episode 9 is going to make the Hallmark Channel jealous of our holiday episode.”
And for those of you Outsiders who tune into the Hallmark Channel’s annual holiday celebrations, you know what to expect. Haas’s claim can only mean we should expect a whole bunch of seasonal festivities, of course. That’s in addition to potential romantic gestures and even a heartbreaking plot line sure to leave us in tears the rest of the night. Or at least, those are my expectations. Feel free to set your own bar.
According to Haas, “Chicago Fire’s” ninth episode this season sits on an island by itself in a way. However, I’m not entirely sure what that implies. Regardless, he revealed to the outlet, “we thought, ‘Hmm, maybe we could do a holiday episode,’ – and I wrote it.”
When Can We Expect Miranda Rae Mayo’s Return to ‘Chicago Fire’?
For now, this season of “Chicago Fire” has said goodbye only to Captain Matt Casey, played by Jesse Spencer. At the moment, the network has not announced any further departures for the remainder of this season. Although, it’s been several episodes since we’ve seen Miranda Rae Mayo’s character Stella Kidd and we’re wondering where she is.
The firefighter first took her leave several episodes ago. Then, “Chicago Fire” show runners explained her absence as she was taking her program Girls on Fire to Boston, Massachusetts. Up to now, it’s been hinted the dedicated firefighter and new Lieutenant are doing well in New England. Although, based on what’s taken place the last few episodes, she’ll definitely need some debriefing once she returns.
Regardless, the ever loyal Derek Haas had some answers for us on that front too. However, as always, he was none too specific with the details. He told TVLine “Chicago Fire” fans will see Miranda Rae Mayo back on screen “before the end of this calendar year.” Still, that potentially implies another nearly-two months without our fierce female lead and Kelly Severide’s new fiancé.
Additionally, fans have begun to wonder at the actress’s return as she potentially falls in line as one of Matt Casey’s likely replacements. After all, she just made Lieutenant and is looking for a permanent place in which to put her newly earned title to work.
