‘Chicago Fire’: Is Brett Dalton’s Pelham Planning to Stay at the Station?

by Jennifer Shea

Jason Pelham (Brett Dalton) is a relatively new addition to the “Chicago Fire” cast. Pelham replaces his fellow lieutenant Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer), who was reportedly written out of the show after Spencer decided to focus on his personal life.

But is Pelham going to stick around? That’s what “Chicago Fire” fans want to know. And Matt Carter has the answer.

You can look for Pelham in future episodes of “Chicago Fire,” Carter reassures fans. Because for one thing, he’s got a compelling story. For another, Pelham is in charge of Truck 81. And that will lift Pelham up in the eyes of his coworkers at the fire station, solidifying his presence there.

Brett Dalton Is Excited to Join ‘Chicago Fire’

Meanwhile, Dalton is clearly excited to join the cast in what Deadline says will be a recurring role. The actor posted an exuberant update to Instagram following his addition.

“Wait… I’m trending on Deadline?” he posted. “Well this is a first! (And hopefully not the last.) Tune in this week for my first episode on #chicagofire @nbconechicago.”

Before “Chicago Fire,” Dalton had appeared in TV series such as “Ghostwriter” and “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and in movies including “Beside Still Waters,” “The Resurrection of Gavin Stone” and “Lost in Florence,” per IMDb.

Jesse Spencer Had Some Family Things to Attend to

As for Spencer, the Australian actor was apparently worn out after 18 years of TV shows, from “House” to “Chicago Fire.” And he hinted at some family obligations that were drawing him away from his most recent show.

“This was a difficult decision because I have loved the show from the start but there are other things that I would like to do in the future, and there’s some family that I need to take care of and 18 years is a long time,” Spencer said in a roundtable interview, per People. “I was marking off these milestones and looking to the future… and it was time.”

Spencer also believed he’d reached a point in the storyline of the show where it was possible for Casey to leave “organically.” There was that one loose end in the form of his relationship with Sylvie Brett (Kara Kilmer), but the characters are supposedly going to try a long-distance relationship.

Showrunner Derek Haas told People they’re going to try to leave the door open for Casey to return at some point. But Spencer seemed to be focused on saying his goodbyes. So it looks like “Chicago Fire” fans had better get used to Jason Pelham for the foreseeable future.
