Ever since he was shot at the end of Season 6, Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) on Chicago Med was absent for a period of time. He might be leaving again after a short-lived return.

It turns out that Dr. Choi was recovering. He wasn’t in the first several episodes of the season, but his return was welcomed. Fans miss the character, but they might want to prepare themselves to miss him some more. In Episode 8 of this season, Just as a Snake Sheds Its Skin, Choi appears to have a big setback.

While Dr. Choi has adapted to his recovery, he can’t avoid everything. He was taking his time and not progressing too quickly. That way he wouldn’t suffer a setback with his recovery, he was even wearing his sling to help him heal. When it came to a patient potentially missing out on the birth of his child due to hernia surgery, the doctor stepped in to provide a non-surgical procedure.

Crockett did not want him to perform the procedure. He felt it was too much for the condition that Ethan was in. Despite that, Dean Archer backs up Ethan. So, he performed the procedure and did so successfully. The man was elated and for a brief moment, so was Dr. Choi. However, he had overdone it. After falling into Crockett’s arms, he quietly requested an MRI.

What the results show is that Choi would need surgery to correct what the overstraining had done. It would take two months of recovery. While Goodwin is giving him the time off, fans are going to be without Brian Tee on screen again. Do not fear, though, there is no evidence that the character is being written out of the show. This is just the current story arc.

‘Chicago Med’ Fall Finale Fast Approaches

The fall finale is soon, like next week soon. Chicago Med fans will have to wait until the show returns in January of February before seeing the conclusion of the season. Right now, with the way Just as a Snake Sheds Its Skin went, we have an idea of where things will end up. Also, that timeline sounds like enough time for Dr. Choi to recover from surgery.

While the doctor is still injured, hopefully, there is more Choi in the second half of the season. If he isn’t on the fall finale, we will understand why. However, fans love Brian Tee and what he brings to the show. The timeline in the show isn’t exactly lined up with the real world. The fact that Jessa invited Will to go to a tree-lighting proves that. So perhaps when the show returns, Choi will be all healed up.

The viewers will just have to wait. This midseason finale should be a good one. Chicago Med fans are going to be eager to see the show return once it takes its hiatus.
