‘Chicago PD’ Originally Starred Clint Eastwood’s Son: Here’s Why His Part Got Cut

by Taylor Cunningham

Chicago PD quickly became a fan-favorite among the Chicago franchise after it debuted in 2014. And fans are eagerly awaiting its 9th season premiere. But what a lot of fans don’t know is that the series originally starred Scott Eastwood.

That’s right, the son of our favorite cowboy, Clint Eastwood, was one of the original lieutenants, but he decided to break from the show after just one episode. Here’s why.

According to TVline, Eastwood played officer Jim Barnes in the backdoor pilot of the NBC series. After that episode, Chicago PD moved forward. But they left Eastwood behind. Sources said that The Longest Ride actor disappeared from the Chicago Fire spin-off for “creative reasons.”

After he left, NBC cast Jesse Lee Soffer to replaces Eastwood’s character. These days, many fans couldn’t imagine the crime drama without Detective Jay Halstead.

We don’t know exactly what those creative reasons were, but we do know that he went on to star in blockbusters like Suicide SquadPacific Rim, and The Fate of the Furious. He even had a cameo in Taylor Swifts Wildest Dreams music video back in 2015.

Perhaps Eastwood decided he’d rather focus on big-budget movies instead of the small screen. In any case, Eastwood and Chicago PD have done well for themselves after the split.

Season 9 of ‘Chicago PD’

Season nine of Chicago PD is about to kick off on NBC, and fans couldn’t be happier to finally get some answers after last year’s season finale.

However, one lingering question has been answered ahead of the premiere.

Officer Kim Burgess will return to the show. Last May, we watched Burgess narrowly escape after being shot while on the pursuit of two criminals. Officers Halstead and Atwater rushed her to sister show Chicago Med for emergency surgeryand we were left wondering if the character would survive.

Fans recently felt some relief after One Chicago Center shared a photo of Marina Squerciati, who plays Officer Burgess, on the Chicago PD set. So, we’re assuming the teaser photo is a sign that Kim Burgess is alive and well. However, One Chicago Center does hint that she may be struggling with PTSD after the shooting.

We’ll learn more about the aftermath of the shooting and Officer Kim Burgess when season nine of Chicago PD premieres on September 22nd at 10 pm ET. The crime drama will follow the season openers of Chicago Med (8 pm ET) and Chicago Fire (9 pm ET).
