Chips Gaines Sends Special Message About ‘Powerful Week’ After Chopping Off Hair for Charity

by Madison Miller

If you’ve been keeping up with the enthusiastic “Fixer Upper” star Chip Gaines, then you know that his hair had accumulated a whole chain of opinions.

Gaines had shoulder-length hair for a period of time as he and Joanna Gaines launched their new Magnolia Network.

Chip Gaines Reflects on St. Jude Charity Work

However, Chip Gaines recently shared that he would be chopping off those luxuriously controversial locks for a good cause. He said at the beginning of the week that he was teaming up with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for a fundraising event. The goal was to raise money to help the organization achieve its goal of helping children and looking for lifesaving cures.

Yesterday, August 27, was the last day that people could donate to the cause. Each time he reached a milestone, Chip shaved off part of his hair.

He initially shared the news by saying, “WOW.. turns out some of y’all really don’t like my hair! But I can take it because I’ve been growing it out for a good reason. So now’s your chance to put your money where your mouth is.. I’m going to cut my hair, and I’m asking you to cut a check—and let’s see if we can raise a boatload of money for the kids at @stjude.”

Now, the home improvement expert is reflecting on his experience. He posted a video on Instagram that shows him going from having long hair to a completely bald look.

“WOW.. over $425k raised for @stjude!! We are completely blown away by how y’all came together to chip in for this amazing organization. Jo and I are rounding that number up to an even $500k & we’re also sending $50k to the folks over at @cwhl_org to support the work they’re doing. Thank you all for being a part of this with us—what a powerful week that will no doubt have a lasting impact on countless lives. #ChipInForStJude,” he wrote on the post.

Response and Past Donations

This isn’t the first time that Chip Gaines has set out to do good for St. Jude. In 2017, he raised $230,000 on social media for cancer researching, according to “Today.” Then, two years later, he launched his “Chip in Challenge” where he raised almost a million for the same cause.

The “Fixer Upper” star even shared the moment that he shaved his head. He was with a cancer patient he met in 2017 named Bailey as well as his wife, Joanna Gaines. Chip donated his hair to Children With Hair Loss so they could make a wig for a child to wear.

Supporters can still donate through the weekend to the cause. Chip exceeded his goal of $300,000 and has said that it is “all worth it.” Fans on social media praised the Gaines couple for their contributions.

“Chip and Joanna Gaines have provided an incredible amount of love, kindness and support to the kids at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital over the years. From a stunning new dining room for patient families staying at St. Jude Target House … We’re thankful for Chip and his generous fans, whose giving determined his bold new look,” Richard C. Shadyac Jr., President and CEO of ALSAC, said in a statement, according to People.
