Netflix’s Saturday TUDUM event brought with it a lot of very exciting news about upcoming events on the popular streaming service. One of the biggest pieces of news fans got during the first inaugural event? #RAKELIVES. That’s right! Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) from the 2020 Netflix original action/thriller film Extraction is coming back to Netflix.
When he will arrive on the streaming service in Extraction 2, we are not exactly sure…but we do now know for sure that he is on his way!
Chris Hemsworth’s Tyler Rake Is Back!
The official teaser for the Extraction sequel, Extraction 2, was released during the TUDUM event. And fans are excited. Especially after how the original film, which premiered on Netflix in April 2020, ended.
“IN 2020 THE WORLD MET A NEW HERO,” the trailer reads as we see a helicopter fly over a destroyed bridge. Little flames are scattered among the vehicles, smoke billows above.
Then, we hear the voice-over as Chris Hemsworth’s Tyler Rake comes into view.
“You’re hoping if you spin the chamber enough times, you’re going to catch a bullet,” the voiceover says as Tyler Rake stands up on the bridge.
And then, it happens. The shot.
Tyker Rake stumbles among the abandoned vehicles and the flames. Holding onto his neck, clearly in pain.
Rake soon topples over…off the bridge, and into the water.
‘You Do Not Drown By Falling Into The River’
Then, we hear the next voiceover as Tyler Rake sinks to the bottom of the river.
“Tyler,” the voice-over says in the teaser. “You drown, not by falling into the river, but by staying submerged in it.”
It is at that moment we see Chris Hemsworth’s Tyler Rake make his move to the surface, gasping for air…soon, the teaser goes black with only the hashtag #RAKELIVES visible. Followed by the message “EXTRACTION 2 COMING SOON.”
Of course, this is a big moment for anyone who remembers the thrilling original film.
The big question at the end of the first Extraction film was whether or not Tyler Rake, Chris Hemsworth’s Australian mercenary character, survived the shot and the fall into the water. It seemed, at first, Rake was a goner in the final scene.
However, a last-minute reveal made viewers question what will come of the hero. And, now we know he at least survives the ordeal from the end of Extraction.
The Netflix film was a fan favorite at the height of the COVID 19 pandemic during the spring of 2020.
With movie theaters closed across the country at the time, action movie and thriller fans alike found just what they needed in the Chris Hemsworth hit. Right in their living rooms.
In fact, Netflix has noted that the 2020 hit film was one of its most-watched films ever.
There is still no official date on the release of Extraction 2, but for now, it’s just enough to know that it is on its way!
