Chrissy Teigen is famous for a lot of things. She’s a model, actress, talk show host, cookbook author and now, self-confessed cyberbully. In March 2021, a dark secret from the celebrity’s past finally came to light. Ten years ago, Teigen harassed 16-year-old Courtney Stodden over Twitter. The animosity originated from Stodden’s marriage to 50-year-old actor Dough Hutchison. Many celebrities took to social media to bombard the teenager with insults and slurs, and one of the worst was Chrissy Teigen.
Since the incident came to the public eye, the backlash has been just as brutal as Teigen’s original comments. In fact, the negativity even forced the celebrity off her social media accounts.
After going dark on Twitter and Instagram, Teigen posted a photo of her legs in a pair of ripped jeans while lounging on her couch. This was just a placeholder, though, for her lengthy caption.
Chrissy Teigen Reveals Her Reaction to Being ‘Canceled’
After her break from social media, Chrissy Teigen shared with Instagram followers that she was not coping with the situation in a healthy manner.
In her caption, she reflected, “Going outside sucks and doesn’t feel right, being at home alone with my mind makes my depressed head race. But I do know that however I’m handling this now isn’t the right answer.”
The actress wrote that she “desperately” wants to “communicate,” and she can’t continue to be silent. But at the same time, she feels it’s difficult to talk about the incident, especially since she’s now a part of the “cancel club.”
“Cancel club is a fascinating thing and I have learned a whollllle lot,” Teigen wrote. “Only a few understand it and it’s impossible to know til you’re in it. And it’s hard to talk about it in that sense because obviously you sound whiney when you’ve clearly done something wrong.”
Chrissy Teigen then asks her followers to let her know if there’s a “cancel club reunion.”
Courtney Stodden Calls Teigen ‘Hypocritical’ For Leaving Social Media
When the issue originally resurfaced in March this year, actress Courtney Stodden didn’t feel much sympathy for Chrissy Teigen’s situation. After Teigen left social media, Stodden called her out, claiming her actions were “hypocritical” given the way she previously attacked the 16-year-old on Twitter.
“I just couldn’t believe how hypocritical it was,” Stodden told TMZ.
Since then, Chrissy Teigen has publicly apologized to Courtney Stodden and claimed she made attempts to reach out privately as well. However, Stodden showed a different side of the story on their Instagram.
Stodden posted a photo that showed Chrissy Teigen blocked her on Twitter. In the caption, she wrote, “I accept her apology and forgive her. But the truth remains the same, I have never heard from her or her camp in private. In fact, she blocked me on Twitter. All of me wants to believe this is a sincere apology, but it feels like a public attempt to save her partnerships with Target and other brands who are realizing her ‘wokeness’ is a broken record.”
