Clark Middleton, Star of ‘The Blacklist’ and ‘Twin Peaks,’ Dead at 63

Actor Clark Middleton, known for his roles in “The Blacklist,” “Twin Peaks” and “Sin City,” has died at age 63.

Middleton’s most recent role was as Glen Carter on “The Blacklist,”  USA Today reported. The show aired in April.

Middleton died of West Nile Virus at his Los Angeles home on Sunday. The virus spreads through infected mosquitoes. Many people only develop mild symptoms. But in some cases, the virus causes life-threatening results like inflammation of the spinal cord or brain, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Middleton came down with Rheumatoid Arthritis when he was just a child. He lived with the condition for most of his life. In a statement, his wife Elissa described him as “a beautiful soul who spent a lifetime defying limits and advocating for people with disabilities.”

“The Blacklist” writer Jon Bokenkamp said he was “heartbroken” at the news, Deadline reported.

“Besides being a truly unique and gifted actor, Clark was simply an incredible guy in every way,” Bokenkamp said. “He was a whip-smart film nut. He loved his work with a passion. And he was insanely generous of spirit. I was fortunate enough to work with Clark over the past several years, and that relationship developed into a wonderful friendship that I’ll always cherish. I know his entire family at ‘The Blacklist’ is devastated by this news. Clark was one of the good ones, and we lost him way too soon.”

On television, Middleton appeared in such well-known shows as “Law & Order,” “CSI” and “Gotham.” His film career spanned films like “Kill Bill” and “Sin City.” Over the course of his life, Middleton worked with directors such as Ang Lee, Quentin Tarantino and Richard Linklater. Besides acting, he also wrote, directed and produced.
