From Stephen Spielberg to Mel Gibson, some of Hollywood’s most iconic names have come together to honor the living legend that is Clint Eastwood.

“He’s managed to hit this kind of nerve that the country understands,” offers Mel Gibson. From one iconic filmmaker to the other, Gibson believes Clint Eastwood is “in touch with the heartland.” And he’s right.

From classics like Unforgiven and Dirty Harry to The Outlaw Josey Wales and Grand Torino, Eastwood has transcended a “Western icon” to become the true American hero. His latest film, Cry Macho, exemplifies this. And some of the most influential talent of our time have come together to celebrate the man at the heart of it all with the release of the film.

“Clint Eastwood is the essence of the American hero, of all the thinks we like to think we all are, or would like to be,” prolific producer Albert S. Ruddy begins for Warner Brother’s tribute.

“When you look at the pantheon of American filmmakers, Clint is right there,” adds screenwriter John Lee Hancock.

“We all recognize Clint as this national icon,” adds Steven Spielberg, who needs no further introduction.

The Filmography of Clint Eastwood has Led the icon to ‘Cry Macho’

Think for a moment past Clint Eastwood‘s leading roles and into his directorial filmography. Flags of Our Fathers, American Sniper, Mystic River, and the Tom Hanks-starring Sully. No one else has kept their finger on the pulse of this nation like Eastwood, and it’s exactly what’s led him to Cry Macho.

“He’s been doing it for so long that he’s just come to a place where he trusts his instincts,” echoes Hilary Swank amidst clips from Macho.

“When we were looking at films last year, Clint says ‘There’s this script, Cry Macho, that Al Ruddy had. I want to take a look at it,” reveals the film’s producer, Tim Moore. “Clint plays this rancher, a character that was that sort of old Eastwood type. What a real cowboy’s supposed to be like.”

Cry Macho brings it all; including Clint Eastwood getting back in the saddle.

“The thing that everybody loves to see is Clint in a cowboy hat and on a horse,” Moore continues. “He hasn’t been on a horse since Unforgiven.” But for Cry Macho, Eastwood is “back in the saddle again,” he says. On the first day of riding, the crew went wild, and audiences are sure to do the same.

Cry Macho is streaming exclusively on HBO Max on September 17. Watch the trailer below, and at 91-years-old, get ready for the return of Clint Eastwood.
