Colin Kaepernick is ready to introduce the world to his younger self. The former quarterback turned activist tweeted Tuesday some big casting news for ‘Colin In Black & White,’ his upcoming Netflix show.
Jaden Michael, 17, is tapped to play a teenage Kaepernick in the six-part biography about the former football player’s early life, TMZ reported.
“I never thought I would be casting a young me in a show about my life. I can’t wait for the world to see @ItsJadenMichael be an all-star on @netflix#ColinInBlackAndWhite@ava,” he tweeted. He included a photo of himself at 17 beside a photo of Michael, and there are some striking similarities.
Michael has also starred in the Netflix shows “The Get Down” and “Vampires Vs. The Bronx,” as well as appeared in episodes of “Gotham” and “Blue Bloods.” Replying to a fan, Michael explained what to expect from the show.
“It’s a story with many complexities and facets, but i’m loving every minute of it. Hope you will too,” he posted.
In addition to the series, Kaepernick said he’s also working on a memoir, Entertainment Weekly said.
What Is Known About ‘Colin in Black & White’
‘Colin In Black & White’ will follow Kaepernick as a young African-American teen growing up in California in a white adoptive family and how those experiences shaped his work on the field and his activism off of it, the New York Post reported. Furthermore, Kaepernick will appear as himself as the narrator in the limited series.
Emmy Award winner Ava DuVernay is leading the production and will direct the show’s first episode. Michael Starrbury, whom DuVernay collaborated with on “When They See Us,” will write and serve as executive producer, The NY Post said.
“With his act of protest, Colin Kaepernick ignited a national conversation about race and justice with far-reaching consequences for football, culture, and for him, personally,” DuVernay said in a statement. “Colin’s story has much to say about identity, sports, and the enduring spirit of protest and resilience. I couldn’t be happier than to tell this story with the team at Netflix.”
However, the show’s premiere date hasn’t been announced.
