Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick may not be signed to an NFL team, but that has not stopped his newly released Nike jersey to sell out almost immediately.

Nike created a special limited edition CK7 jersey that went on sell on its website early Thursday morning. The limited jersey sold out within seconds. The jersey is called The Icon 2.0 and is meant to commemorate the four year anniversary of Kaepernick’s kneeling protests during the pregame national anthem.

The jersey may look familiar to some, because LeBron James debuted it first. James wore the black on black jersey as he entered the arena for Game 5 of the Lakers’ playoff series with the Houston Rockets last week.

The Craze Surrounding Kaepernick’s Limited Nike Jersey

Kaepernick’s limited jersey retailed for $150 on Nike’s website. However, only minutes after they sold out, they were being resold on sites like eBay and StockX for 3 times the original price.

In fact, one of the jerseys has already sold on StockX for $400, a mark up of $250. There are multiple jerseys being resold on the sites that range from $400 to $500.

Likewise, Colin Kaepernick’s special Nike Air Force 1 sneaker collaboration sold out instantly when they released in 2019.

Kaepernick posted about the limited jersey on his Instagram account.

“Four years ago, I took a knee to protest against systemic racism and social injustice,” Kaepernick wrote in his post. “It was that day that the number on my jersey would come to represent something greater than football, something greater than me.”

“Since then, the number 7 jersey has become a symbol for advancing the liberation and well-being of Black & Brown communities. Thank you for staying True,” he concluded.

Kaepernick has been busy recently, even without playing in NFL games these days. His Nike merchandise is in high demand, and he was recently added back into the Madden 2021 football video game. In addition, his character was ranked as the top free-agent quarterback in the game.
