Conan O’Brien said goodbye to late-night TV hosting last night. O’Brien has helmed several night-time talk shows over the years. In fact, he has been delivering laughs after dark for nearly three decades. However, all good things must come to an end.

Conan O’Brien is so much more than a talk show host. He has become a part of American pop culture. In fact, he was even a hilariously incorrect answer on Jeopardy! not long ago. The whole of television would look different without O’Brien’s influence.

Last night, Conan O’Brien said farewell to this final late-night show. It was an emotional night for O’Brien and his crew. It was also an emotional night for Team Coco, O’Brien’s huge and loyal fan base. However, the veteran host didn’t just sign off and call it a day. Instead, he took some time to address his fans, thank those who helped him get where he was, and generally talk about his years in television.

Conan O’Brien’s Closing Comments

Conan O’Brien’s closing comments were full of gratitude. He started by saying, “First of all, I am the beneficiary of literally hundreds and hundreds of really talented amazing people. Then, I’m just the nosecone of the rocket. There are so many people to thank.”

Over the next 14 minutes, Conan O’Brien went down the list of those who helped him get to where he is today. He starts by mentioning Steve Koonin, the former president of Turner Entertainment Networks. O’Brien said that Koonin was the reason he came to TBS. He made the move because Koonin promised him creative freedom. According to O’Brien, he enjoyed that freedom for eleven years.

Conan O’Brien went on to thank several other people directly linked to his show. Among those people were his co-host Andy Richter as well as the show’s writers and executive producer. Then, O’Brien looked back to his time as a writer for SNL. He said that Lorne Michaels took a gamble on him and gave him his first late-night hosting gig almost thirty years ago. Some gambles pay off more than others, this one was a smart move on the part of Michaels.

Before moving to wrap up, Conan O’Brien gave Friends star Lisa Kudrow a shout-out. He said that before he started hosting, she had more faith in him than he did. “You wouldn’t know me without Lisa Kudrow,” he said of her.

As his final comments drew to a close, Conan O’Brien thanked his family. He started with his parents and siblings. Than, moved on to thank his wife Liza and their two children.

In the end, however, Conan O’Brien said it was his fans who made it all happen. They were the ones who supported him throughout his career.
