Star of NCIS: Los Angeles, Eric Christian Olsen has a new project on the way. Could it mean a separation from NCIS?
That is what fans are asking after Olsen announced his new project Rescue: MIA. The new series is a first responder-based drama. This will introduced CBS to the first responder genre. NBC and ABC have their own shows with Chicago Fire and Station 19 while Fox has 9-1-1. However, it could have implications for his current role.
Marty Deeks is integral to the show, and it is hard to imagine him not being there. However, Miami is a long way from Los Angeles. It isn’t impossible to do both shows, but it depends if Olsen wants to dedicate his time to executive producing or acting. During this new season of NCIS: Los Angeles Olsen is going to be writing an episode.
There is no word one way or another, so this is all speculative. It does sound like Olsen is excited for this new project. He announced the show that is being written by Juan Carlos Coto along with James Hanlon working in a producing role. Both Coto and Hanlon have worked on other first responder series.
This series is going to be based, “around a legendary family of first responders that works together to rescue the citizens of Miami from emergencies and disasters, even as long-buried secrets threaten to tear apart their familial bonds.”
Hanlon has also worked on NCIS: Los Angeles. He directed 16 episodes of the show and has worked in a number of shows outside of the crime/first responder genre. While Olsen will be reliable for this season, perhaps future seasons will be affected if this new show takes off.
Marty Deeks Story not Complete on ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’
One thing that fans would hate to see is if Marty Deeks leaves before his story is fully fleshed out. While that seems silly to say after 13 seasons, the truth is that show producers haven’t pulled the trigger on the backstory because they are unsure of where to go with it.
“We’ve never done the ‘Deeks, M‘ episode,” showrunner Scott Gemmill said to TV Line. “We haven’t really settled on what we want to do yet, and because it’s taken us this long, now it feels a lot more pressured to do it in such a way that the fans feel like the wait was worth it.”
With the new project, Rescue: MIA the Deeks story might be put on hold further. If that is the case, fans will not be super thrilled. They have wanted this story for a long time. If they don’t get it, it’s going to be a lot of disappointment.
