Recently, online sleuths have rediscovered an old comment Josh Duggar left on his sister’s Instagram photo.
Reddit users dug up the comment amid Josh Duggar’s sexual abuse allegations and recent child pornography arrest— making the resurfaced comment all the more unsettling.
In the photo from 2013, fans can see an old photo of Jessa and her husband, Ben Seewald. In the comment sections, Josh wrote “I’m watching you” alongside an eye emoji. Although the comment could have been harmless, many find it to be disturbing, considering the circumstances.
“I think he was trying to be all ‘relatable big brother,’ but because of who he is and what we now know it comes off creepy,” wrote one user.
“A normal big brother saying that would be fine. Coming from a brother that assaulted you is creepy,” another wrote, making the point that the comment was “still paternalistic and gross either way.”
Ultimately, many users concluded that his comment was nothing less than upsetting. “I think we can rule out ‘protective big brother’ since he was the person his sisters needed to be protected from,” wrote one Reddit user. “If I was ignorant of all the sh– he’s done, I’d consider it weird. Now it sounds downright nefarious,” wrote another.
In 2015, Jessa and her sister Jill Dillard alleged that Josh Duggar had molested them in their childhood home.
At the time of the abuse, Jessa was nine or ten years old. “In Josh’s case, he was a young boy in puberty and a little too curious about girls,” Jessa said in an interview. “And that got him into some trouble.”
Josh Duggar’s Trail Set to Begin in July
Josh Duggar is currently at the center of controversy as he finds himself in the middle of an FBI investigation. In April, police arrested him for the alleged receipt and ownership of child pornography.
In the wake of his arrest, he’s since been released on bond and is staying with a family friend. A judge has ordered that he is prohibited from having contact with any minors and his own children.
Yet, the father-of-six is reportedly allowed “unlimited contact” with his kids. However, Josh Duggar’s wife, Anna — who is currently pregnant with their seventh child — must be present for the visits. His trial is set to begin in July.
Earlier this year, Jessa spoke out about her brother’s arrest.
“We are saddened to hear of the charges against Josh,” Jessa and her husband both posted to their Instagram Stories, per People. “As Christians, we stand against any form of pornography or abuse and we desire for the truth to be exposed, whatever that may be. Our prayers are with their family as they walk through this difficult time.”
