This weekend was the fifth anniversary of David Bowie’s death. He passed away on January 10, 2016.

The iconic rocker icon passed away from liver cancer in 2016. The two have a 20-year-old daughter together, Lexi Jones.

Tribute to Late David Bowie

Now, his widow, Iman, paid tribute to Bowie in a series of social media posts. One post is of the pair under an umbrella, with Bowie placing a sweet kiss on her forehead.

She captioned the photo, “Forehead kisses are kisses meant for the soul. #EternalLove #BowieForever.”

In another photo, Iman shares a drawing inspired by the late Bowie. On the fourth anniversary of his death last year, she shared a photo of a bluebird painting.

One of the songs on his last album from 2016 was “Lazurus.” In the song he sings, “You know, I’ll be free / Just like that bluebird / Now, ain’t that just like me? / Oh, I’ll be free.”

Iman frequently expresses that Bowie was the love of her life. She said in an interview with Bazaar UK that she’ll “never get married again.”

“David is in our hearts and minds on a daily basis, for all of us. You know, this was my true love. My daughter once asked me if I would ever marry again and I said, “never” … He’s hiding in plain sight. His fans are still around, his music is still relevant. And on the day of his passing, I went on a hike and a bluebird flew in front of me. A bluebird, above all things!” Iman said to Bazaar.

David Bowie and Iman

Iman is one of the most recognizable supermodels. She is also the owner of the Global Chic fashion line. Iman involves herself with several philanthropic missions as well. She is a global advocate for CARE, which fights poverty.

Iman is also a spokesperson for the Keep a Child Alive program and Save the Children.

When her and Bowie got married, many believed the tabloids would be full of the romantic affairs between the two. However, the two kept the marriage away from the spotlight.

“You would think that a rock star being married to a supermodel would be one of the greatest things in the world. It is,” Bowie said on his marriage to Iman.

They met in the 1990s at a dinner party. She retired from modeling. The two hit it off and Bowie was head over heals and even said, “I’d never gone after anything…with such passion in all my life.”

Two years later, they were married. Both of them had also been married to previous people in the past. They were so obsessed with their privacy and rarely did interviews or had appearances together.

“We went this summer [to London]. And no one knew we were there!… Every day we went and did different things and the press never knew! It’s absurd this idea that celebrities can’t be anonymous. We even went to the London Eye. We queued separately, Lexi had a friend with her and they went with the bodyguard and then we all met on board,” Iman said in a 2014 The Guardian article.

In fact, the couple were so removed from the spotlight that people were very shocked over his sudden death. No one knew he was even sick at the time.

Duncan Jones Reflects on Bowie’s Death

David Bowie was married to Angie Bowie from 1970 to 1980. Together they had Duncan Jones in 1971.

On the anniversary of his father’s death, he remembers the legacy of his father.

“Today marks 5 years since dad died. We are all a little sad, coping individually in our own ways. But it’s both remarkable & delightful that dad is still so clearly loved by so many. Yes, he’s missed… but with so much of ‘him’ in the work he made, he’s clearly still here,” he wrote in a post on Twitter.

He shared an image of the art on the final studio album from Bowie, “Blackstar.” It was Bowie’s first Billboard 200 chart leader, according to Billboard. It came out just two days before he died on the star’s 69th birthday.

Jones himself is a popular, award-winning director. His films are “Moon,” “Source Code,” “Warcraft,” and “Mute.”
