‘Days of Heaven’ Star Linda Manz Dead at 58

“Days of Heaven” Star Linda Manz died on Friday. The actress was 58.

Manz, most known for her roles in “Days of Heaven” and Dennis Hopper’s “Out of the Blue,” passed after battling lung cancer and pneumonia. Manz’s son, Michael Guthrie, announced the news of his mother’s passing. He shared the news on a GoFundMe page raising funds for the funeral.

“Linda passed away August 14 after battling with lung cancer and pneumonia. She leaves behind a husband, two sons and three grand-children who all love and miss her tremendously. Linda was a loving wife, a caring mom, a wonderful grandma and a great friend who was loved by many,” Guthrie wrote. “Thank you and God bless. Rest in peace. We love you, Mom.”

On Friday, actor Ken Wahl took to Facebook to share his thoughts on Manz. The two starred in 1979 drama “The Wanderers” together. “She was great to work with and I am grateful that I got to speak with her before she passed this morning. RIP Peewee,” he wrote.

Linda Manz: Career History

At the age of 15, Manz took on her first film role in 1978’s “Days of Heaven.” She portrayed Linda, the younger sister to Richard Gere’s lead character, Bill. In the film, Linda and Bill set off, along with Bill’s girlfriend, from Chicago to Texas after Bill kills his foreman.

The film went on to win an Academy Award for best cinematography. Furthermore, director Terrence Malick took home the best director award at the Cannes Film Festival.

In “Out of the Blue,” Manz played the role of Cebe. Her character was obsessed with rock music and Elvis Presley. Manz’ most recent film credit comes from 1997’s “The Game.” The film stars Sean Penn and Michael Douglas.

In addition to her film credits, Linda Manz made several appearances on TV. Her TV credits include “Dorothy,” “Orphan Train,” and “Faerie Tale Theater.”
