What else is there to say? Crab fishing just runs in the blood of some people like Deadliest Catch star Josh Harris and even his daughter.
Deadliest Catch is a reality TV show on the Discovery Channel. It originally premiered on April 12, 2005. The show follows crab fishermen aboard various fishing vessels in the Bering Sea during Alaskan king crab and snow crab fishing seasons. Deadliest Catch kicked off its 17th season back in April.
As the name of the Discovery Channel show suggests, this particular line of work is one of the most dangerous in the world. Despite that, Josh Harris, the co-captain of Cornelia Marie, lives and breathes crab fishing. He is following in the footsteps of his father Phil Harris, who died back in 2010.
Turns out that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Just as the 38-year-old is following in his father’s footsteps, it seems like his daughter is headed for a crab fishing future as well. He explained as much to TV Shows Ace back in April. They asked him if his daughter has expressed an interest in fishing, crewing a boat, or learning how to navigate waters.
“Oh my God. Yeah,” he responded. “Whenever we go on the little boat, she has to drive, and we go crabbing sometimes it’s for fun with Dungeness crab, and she grabs them out of the pot, and me being the dad, I’m like, ‘Whoa, you know, you can’t just be grabbing them!'”
His daughter, on the other, doesn’t seem to think it’s a big deal. She says, “It’s fine, dad.”
“It’s fun. I tell her they’ll snap your fingers in half, and there is no fear in that kid of mine. No fear.”
‘Deadliest Catch’ Star Preaches the Importance of Education to His Daughter
Josh Harris did not finish high school himself. But he is making sure to put his daughter on the right path. The Deadliest Catch star knows firsthand just how important education is.
“I told her, you have got to go to school,” Harris explained. “It is really important. She goes, ‘it’s just overrated, dad!’ No, it’s not overrated. And you’re going to go to school, and you’re going to do well as this [fishing] industry is up and down. You never know.”
Meanwhile, Harris hopes that a good education will give his daughter the footing she needs to be successful.
“So, I’m hoping that she does to school and is focused on that. She knows I didn’t graduate school, so she was like, look how you turned out. I tell her that it’s a little bit different. It’s a lot harder life, and that she is smart and good with people. She has a lot more advantage of that than when I was younger.”
