‘Deadliest Catch’ Star Nick McGlashan Cause of Death Officially Revealed

Nick McGlashan, who was a star on Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch,” died from a drug overdose, according to an autopsy report.

McGlashan, 33, was found dead in a Nashville, Tenn., hotel on Dec. 27, 2020. He died after taking a “toxic mix of methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl,” the autopsy report reveals. McGlashan was found unresponsive in a hotel bathroom, and drug paraphernalia was found “nearby” in the bathroom.

He starred in around 80 episodes of “Deadliest Catch” from 2013 to 2020.

A resident of Florida, McGlashan was in Nashville to reportedly meet some friends. McGlashan joined the show’s cast in 2013, yet came from a line of crabbers in his family. He started out crabbing at age 13 on his father Bruce’s boat.

It was no secret that McGlashan struggled with drug and alcohol addiction. He went to rehab during the 13th season of “Deadliest Catch.”

McGlashan’s Role

Before his death, Nick McGlashan was a deck boss on the Summer Bay after becoming a key member for Wild Bill. Although his background was in crabbing, McGlashan adapted quickly and became an asset on the Cape Caution and the Summer Bay.

Considering his background of crab fishing since the age of 13, it didn’t come as a surprise that McGlashan was ready to move up and up on Deadliest Catch.

Of course, his battle with addiction made for serious issues in his work, but McGlashan became a fan-favorite due to his attitude and work ethic on the program.

‘Deadliest Catch’ Star Mahlon Reyes Also Dies In 2020

It’s been quite a sad stretch for stars of “Deadliest Catch.” Beyond McGlashan dying, deckhand Mahlon Reyes also passed away with drugs playing a role.

Reyes died in July 2020 suddenly, but no specific word around what caused his death was released until January 2021.

Reyes, 38, suffered a massive heart attack. Rumors started spreading but answers were not found until last month.

Reports say the crab fish boat deckhand died of a drug overdose brought on by a powerful stimulant. Flathead County, Mont., sheriff, and coroner, Brian Heino says Reyes died from acute cocaine intoxication. Heino also calls the death accidental.

Initially, Reyes survived the heart attack. An ambulance took Reyes to a hospital where he was placed on life support but never regained consciousness. His wife says that his death came as a complete shock to the family as he had no known health ailments.

McGlashan posted a picture of the two of them smiling while aboard one of the ships.
