Dexter Morgan and his morally superior brand of serial killing are coming back after eight long years. Dexter: New Blood premieres tomorrow, November 7, which means the Dexter-loving Yellowstone crowd is going to be in for a doozy of a Sunday. But in this era of original streaming content, it can be hard to know where to look for our favorite shows.
Fret not, dear Outsider. Like the original Dexter series, which ran from 2006 to 2013, Dexter: New Blood is a Showtime original series and will be available to watch on Showtime. Likewise, fans will be able to stream new episodes on the Showtime app. And guess what? Don’t tell them we told you this, but Showtime is currently offering a 30-day free trial. So, in theory, you could watch the first four episodes of Dexter: New Blood for free.
Further, for all of the Yellowstone diehards out there (all of us), ViacomCBS has a bundle combining Showtime streaming and Paramount Plus for $11.99 per month. But be forewarned, even though Yellowstone is a Paramount product, the show is still unavailable on their streaming platform and likely will be for some time. We know. It’s a whole mess. Apparently, ViacomCBS has crunched the numbers and found that they can make even more money through licensing deals with rival platforms like Peacock. That said, the spinoff series, including 1883, should be available on Paramount Plus.
But we digress. The Season 4 Yellowstone premiere tomorrow is living rent-free in our minds if you couldn’t tell. Back to Dexter: New Blood. If Showtime isn’t a preferred option, for whatever reason, then fans will be relieved to learn that access to the network’s titles can be purchased through Amazon Prime Video as an extra “channel.”
Where Does ‘Dexter: New Blood’ Begin?
Where to begin? It’s been so long since the original Dexter; we may need to watch back through the series like we have been Yellowstone—okay, we’ll stop.
In all seriousness, Dexter: New Blood returns, as it only could have, with Michael C. Hall playing the eponymous Dexter Morgan. According to IMDb, the show picks up a full 10 years after the conclusion of the original series. For those who can’t quite recall, that ending found Dexter disappearing into a hurricane.
These days, Dexter finds himself in the polar opposite of Miami. The show will reportedly open in the snowy landscape of upstate New York, where the lovable serial killer has been making a life for himself under the assumed name Jim Lindsey. But when mysterious crimes begin to occur, will Dexter be able to suppress the urges caused by his “dark passenger”? Only time will tell. Fortunately, we only have to wait a day to find out.
