‘Dirty Jobs’: Mike Rowe Announces Release Date, Air Time for New Season

It’s been nearly a decade since we last watched a new episode of Dirty Jobs. But a ninth season is coming. And Mike Rowe wants you to know that there is “no need to dress up.”

In November of 2012, Mike Rowe announced that Dirty Jobs was canceled after seven years citing a drop in ratings.

“A few weeks ago, I was officially informed that Dirty Jobs had entered into a new phase,” he wrote on Huffpost. “One I like to call, ‘permanent hiatus.’ Or in the more popular industry vernacular, canceled.”

The news was hard to digest because the series was “a very personal show.” Rowe created Dirty Jobs as a way of bringing attention to blue-collared workers. The concept was close to his heart for many reasons. For one, Mike Rowe came from a long line of laborers. And Rowe had hoped to become work a skilled worker himself. But after years of trying, he realized that it wasn’t in the cards for him. So he made a show about it instead.

Another reason Rowe decided to make a go of Dirty Jobs was to help the younger generations understand how important skilled jobs are for society. And he hoped that the realization would push more high school grads towards labor work.

And now, Mike Rowe gets to showcase blue-collared workers all over again because Dirty Jobs is coming back right as we ring in the new year. Today, the host gave his Instagram followers the details of the premiere.

“It’s official,” he wrote alongside a preview of season nine. “Sunday, January 2, 8PM. No need to dress up.”

What’s in Store for Mike Rowe on Season Nine of ‘Dirty Job’?

In the video, Rowe gives a sneak peek of the brand new Dirty Jobs episodes to come.

“We don’t do second takes. We don’t do a lot of planning,” he shared. “It’s an honest look at work through the lens of an honest day.”

The promo shows snippets of Rowe in some exciting situations. In one clip, he’s digging in a miniature tunnel. In another, he’s dressed in scrubs and cutting into a cadaver (while covered in blood). And in a few other takes, he’s doing a job that requires him to be sky-high. There is also a shot of the host carrying severed limbs. That should be an interesting episode.

“Strap in folks, this one’s gonna be a doozy,” he continues. “We never know what’s gonna happen, but we always have a good time. And we always wind up learning more than we thought we would.”

Season nine of Dirty Jobs will be available on Discovery and Discovery +.
