Following music icon DMX’s death, his family is clearing the air on the state of his master recordings, as well as scammers claiming funds are needed for his memorial service.

Born Earl Simmons, beloved rapper DMX died Friday, April 9 at White Plains Hospital in New York after a tragic struggle on life support. Simmons’ entire family was present for his last hours. Fans and friends, too, held a vigil outside his place of passing for most of his last week of life.

Now, in the aftermath of his passing, the icon’s family is issuing another statement refuting rumors circulating online trades.

“There have been a few rumors following our loved one, Earl Simmons’, passing that we’d like to clear up,” DMX’s kin begin their statement. “No one has bought Earl’s masters,” they clarify Monday, affirming that his legacy is still very much intact with family.

“Additionally, we are not selling any merch or raising money for Earl’s funeral.  If anyone is requesting money for his funeral please be aware the person is a scammer. We will keep the public posted on funeral/memorial service arrangements,

The statement, which Variety cites Monday, comes as the rumors persist mere days after DMX’s passing.

DMX: The Loss of a Music Icon

The late rapper’s family provides no further details on their loved one’s memorial service or funeral. While his family is looking for their privacy to be respected at this time, their previous statement did state they would “share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.”

“We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days,” his family said Friday in light of his death.

“Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX,” their original statement concludes.

One other persistent rumor, pointing to DMX’s heart attack being the result of an unspecified overdose, has not been confirmed. The music icon’s family has yet to speak to this matter.
