DMX’s fiancee Desiree Lindstrom called the late rapper her “everything” in a heart-rending photo of them shortly after they started dating. The longtime couple have a son together named Exodus.

DMX, real name Earl Simmons, died on April 9 in a New York hospital. He was 50 years old.

“The first night we met and you held me close. I knew I would never let go. I was lost in you and nothing else mattered. My best friend, my baby, my love…truly my everything. Thank you for us, thank you for Exodus. Thank you God for Earl Simmons…forever X,” she posted on Instagram.

Lindstrom also got a tattoo in honor of the Ruff Ryder rapper that features his signature X and the phrase “Dog love.” TMZ said she chose it because the animal was synonymous with the rapper, and a dog’s love is unconditional.

Simmons died after suffering a drug-induced heart attack at his home on April 2, TMZ reported. When he arrived at the White Plains Hospital, doctors had to resuscitate him. They believe his brain was deprived of oxygen for 30 minutes, reports said. The rapper lingered in a coma for a week before dying on April 9.

Public Memorial for DMX Set for Later This Month

Fans will get a chance to say goodbye to DMX at a public memorial service at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on April 24. Though organizers are still working out the logistics because of COVID-19 restrictions and ticket information. Family and friends will have a private funeral following the event.

Many fans gathered outside of his hospital during the week he was there. They held nightly vigils for the beloved rapper.

His family thanked the fans for their love and support when announcing his death.

“Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle, and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.”

DMX upended the music industry in the late 1990s with his raw delivery and fresh take on the rap genre. It began with his 1998 debut album It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts. He was the first musician whose first five albums reached the top spot.
