Matthew McConaughey is known for his incredibly chill, easygoing demeanor. He may have outdone himself recently though, posting a picture enjoying the beach with a sea turtle.
Simply captioning his Twitter post “turkey and turtle,” good luck finding a moment more relaxing than that. Even the turtle looks like it’s just enjoying the moment. Who knows, maybe McConaughey shared some of his drink with it. For reference, the “turkey” mentioned is likely referencing Wild Turkey, a brand of Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey.
McConaughey’s followers are eating it up, with dozens of tweets being hearts and laughing emojis. “After a couple of those Wild Turkeys, you’ll be naked and playing the turtle’s shell like a bongo drum,” a commenter amusingly said. Another mentions the album cover TikTok challenge, in which it essentially says any moment can be an album cover. “This is that album cover challenge everyone’s talking about. Brilliant,” he states.
Not going to lie, if you could guarantee an album as serene as that picture appears to be, I’d buy it on day one.
Matthew McConaughey Fields Questions About Potentially Running for Texas Governor
Besides the responses listed above, many people on Twitter referenced and asked Matthew McConaughey about running for office. He mentioned it last year and has done so numerous times lately. In a recent interview, he fields some questions about the subject and his thoughts on certain issues.
Speaking on the New York Times podcast, Sway, McConaughey answered some important questions about his potential run for Texas governor. Interestingly, he has yet to declare a party affiliation, saying he thinks we should “redefine” politics.
“If each party’s only about preservation of party, well, I’m almost arguing that’s undemocratic,” McConaughey said. “If you’re only there to, by hook or by crook, preserve your party, you’re leaving out 50% of the people. So, I think politics needs a redefining.”
Speaking of defining, the actor believes a third party would enhance the current voting system. “I think people want a third party, and we’ve got one,” Matthew McConaughey said. “It doesn’t have a name right now, and it is the majority. It is 60% of the population in America.”
McConaughey also addressed some key issues such as mask mandates and abortion. He says the mask mandate issue is simple and states we should have one. He believes people felt threatened more about the word “mandate” than the mask inconvenience. However, on the abortion subject, he was a bit less cut and dry.
“I’m not going to come out and tell you right now on this show, here’s where I stand about abortion,” McConaughey stated. “We’ve been trying to figure out that, and how to play God with that situation since the beginning. But this latest move by Texas? It’s a little bit of … feels like a back to front sort of Roe v. Wade loophole that they’re trying to get into.”
If he runs, maybe the sea turtle can be his mascot.
