Dolly Parton ‘Flattered’ by Hilarious SNL Impression of Her

by Clayton Edwards

Dolly Parton is has been spreading her love of Christmas everywhere this year. She has dropped an album, a movie and a couple of live specials dedicated to the season. That is just this year. At this point we don’t think anyone would be shocked if she took over for Saint Nick and started delivering presents on Christmas Eve.

You don’t have to be a fan of Parton (but who isn’t?) to be aware of her impact on the Christmas season this year. In fact, the folks over at “Saturday Night Live” have apparently taken notice. Earlier today, Dolly tweeted a skit from the show that included a great impression of her.

Dolly Parton Has an Awesome Sense of Humor

In the tweet, Dolly Parton said that she was flattered by Melissa Villaseñor’s impression of her. She went on to say that she never looked or sounded so good. We tend to disagree but it was very sweet of her to say so.

Dolly is well known for her charm and sense of humor. Some of her most famous quotes contain humourous references to her appearance. “It costs a lot of money to look this cheap,” may be one of her most famous, and funniest, quotes. Her reaction to the skit and the fact that she shared it show that Dolly can still laugh at herself.

You have to admit that Villaseñor’s impersonation of Dolly is almost perfect. The outfit is great but it’s her voice talent that really sells it. She also showed the world that someone should find a way to arrange “Jingle Bells” to the tune of “Jolene,” preferably before Christmas. In fact, maybe someone should arrange a whole album of Christmas songs to Dolly Parton tunes. We’d buy it.

Who is Melissa Villaseñor?

There’s a good reason that Melissa Villaseñor killed the impression of Dolly Parton. She’s not just a stand-up comedian and actress. She is also an accomplished impressionist. Her impressions took her all the way to the semifinals of “America’s Got Talent.”

She has been a regular cast member of “Saturday Night Live” since 2016. Villaseñor has also provided voice work for animated features such as “Wreck-It Ralph 2” as well as several animated TV shows. Her television credits include “Family Guy,” “American Dad,” and “F Is for Family.”

The real question is could she beat the country icon in a Dolly Parton lookalike contest?
